i just wanted to know what made u guys decide to follow such a great footy club? and who was your first favourite player

for me it was because my god father used to coach there and my mum was a red hot demons supporter. my dad is a lions man (poor thing) and my brothers are all demons. my first favourite player was Robbie Flower and then Glenn Lovett and of course now Gus.

so what about you guys?

In 1988, the Dogs were going really badly, so I decided to start going for my uncle's team, the mighty Demons! And I haven't looked back!

Coincidentally, soon after making this decision, I found out my best mate also went for the Dees and so we went to my first VFL game with him soon afterwards. Vs the Dogs at nearby Western Oval.

My Dad has always been a Melbourne supporter, so it was instilled in me from a young age.

It really came good in 87 after we got into the finals in the last round against Footscray. I was only 4 but I was at that game with Dad. He bought me ****loads of lollies and stuff cos he was so happy they got in. I have never looked back from there.

Well the first game I went to was Melb vs Carlton - round 13 2000. If anyone remembers we lost by 100 points and it made me even more determined to support Melbourne for some reason!

HOLY ****! did u know i was at that game. cos like it was neita's 150th and there was no way i would miss it for the world. :p and in rd20 this year *touch wood* he plays his 200th.

I had no choice. Mum took me to a few games and I really started liking it. Been going regularly since about 1989 and Id say Ive only missed about 5 Victorian Melbourne games since then.

Favourite players of all time would have to be Allen Jakovich, Jimmy Stynes, Stephen Tingay, Ricky Jackson and Schwarta.

I didn't realise Neita had played so many games for the club! He would have reached it earlier, if not for a Broken Jaw in 97 and a broken ankle in 98. He could well go on to break Robbie Flower's record, seeing as Febey doesn't look like he will play senior footy again.

I was told to barrack for Melbourne, simple as that. The entire family did so it would look a bit silly if I went for someone else.

After that game, I seriously considered not going to the football again!

I went to that match in 88 too (Barkly St, end, behind our cheer squad ;)). I was a veteran by then though. South vs Dees @ South in 81 was my first game, showing my age? :D

Like Armie, my dad was also a royboy & he used to take me to lots of games as a kid & he always preferred the G (He took me to Princess Park/Optus Oval twice, coz it was pretty close).

I chose the Dees in 81 because we were coached by Ron Barrassi & Captained by Robbie Flower. The fact that we only won 1 game that season never bothered me :).

After Robbie, Viney, Stinga, Ox, Yze, Bruce & Powell stand out as my favourites in the 21! years I've been watching the Dees.

So that & the fact we played at the G sealed it for me.

weeeeeelll.....

when i was in grade 1, i hadn't yet been to a footy match, but i played footy at school with the boys and a few girls... and i just started liking footy. (i lost my best friend coz i didn't sit with her, i just played footy). then one day i went to the footy with a friend of mine and his family to the melbourne hawks match, and melbourne won, so since then i've been a melbourne suporter. its been hard being a melbourne suporter coz my parents hate footy, but its been fine!
i dunno what i'd do without the dees, they're ****ing amazing!!!:D

Would have been really funny if we bumped into each other!
Well speaking of milestones, I heard that Robbo wasn't at training this morning which means he won't be playing tommorow night which means that unless we get into the finals I will have to wait till next year to see him play his 100th match and who knows where I'll be next year..... :( :p  :D

Nicki I think it would be even more special if you came down here pissed and went up to Neita and said "you know what? I think you are our captain... oh are you really? well why don't you prove it to me?" than you can vomite on his shoes and pass out! Now thats a present he won't ever forget! :p

Hehehehe yeah its just like what we were talking about isn't it? The whole football thing is really attractive but once you get to know them its completely different which is why alot of those groupies go off the players very quickly and move on from one player to the other!
