Enough with the Swallow bashing. Why is Goddard, Whitfield, Scully, Patton or Swan in there either?

Ablett please. Twice every day and 5 times on Sunday.

That is the weirdest poll I have ever seen. At first I thought it was all former number 1 picks, but then I realised that Swan, Ablett, and Andrew Swallow were nowhere near 1st pick. But then why in hell is Whitfield in this poll? He hasn't even played a game. Or Patton? Has to be a troll thread.

Swallow for sure. Terrible thread, doesn't even make sense.

If I had to take a number one pick from all the number one picks though, it would be Nick Riewoldt. Was amazing to see him in full flight. One of the best forwards I've seen.

It is a strange poll, I mean you put Swallow in there over players like Judd and Watson..?

Anyway, I'd have to say Marc Murphy would be my best number 1 pick.
Part of this choice is a gamble on whether or not he fulfills his potential, but I think at the end of his career he could very well be considered better than Hodge.

Thought about him.
But thought twice because I never felt he had that champion ability to win games that needed winning. Saw him choke so many times and fail to perform on the big stage. Compare that to a Hodge or a Goddard.

Considering the wording of the OP I think it's more likely he's mentally challenged.

I didn't put it in best to worst order just random players that came to my mind.

Tom Scully was Melbournes number 1 draft pick so I think I'm supposed to pick him.

I dunno if I'm doing it right though.

Thats one of the biggest myths going around. He single handedly won us 2 prelims and all his stats go up in finals. No reiwoldt and we would have no chance of making any grand finals. Hodge was crap in the 2012 grand final largely due to missing most of the year with injuries, yet reiwoldt missed most of 2010 with injury and he isn't accorded the same leniency.

My point wasn't that he never stands up. But I have seen him choke a few times.
I think it was 2009 when he missed a shot after the siren against Essendon and then the following week against North Melbourne.
And contrary to what you're saying, I've seen him fail to perform in big matches a few times.
But I'd never argue that in his prime he wasn't the best forward in the game.

Drew Banfield. 200+ odd games for WCE plus 2 flags and was a solid contributor week in week out. Hopefully Murphy will fulfil his potential as #1, he'll be better than Hodge

Everyone does though. I've seen Adam goodes miss after the siren and I'm sure many other guns have too, but everyone still seems to shoot reiwoldt down about it like he is the only champion that has ever choked. Nobody has a perfect career with no faults but everyone loves to get stuck into roo about it.

I suppose we should be grateful you didn't think of Schoenmakers or Sellar

Go watch the 09 prelim (I certainly won't be) and tell me Reiwoldt doesn't stand up. The bloke single handily beat us that day. I hate him with a passion but he was a jet.
