I was hoping that there’d be a sneaky Christmas Day golfing story.
I do it every year. I'm not a big drinker and by 4pm I need to get out of the house. Last time I was in Melbourne I jumped the fence to get on Northern(?) Golf club. I've managed to forge it as 'tradition' so now my wife doesn't mind!

Thank God for good course management, the ability to putt and scramble well. 11 over 79 at Waverley public. 5 from 13 fairways and a poor 3 greens in reg. Fairly obvious what I am weak at and areas I need to improve.

I was 1 under after 4, held up and doubled with a 3 putt, rushing being called through on the 5th. Went downhill from there. 28 putts was great though, helped by giving myself a chance chipping and misses not being too bad at times.

32 degrees
98% humidity
11am teeoff booked

Ouch
I saw the forecast today and made it a "rest" day lol. 33 degrees with a 90% chance of rain and potentially storms in my area.

Am gonna head out tomorrow either to Glen Waverley, Malvern Valley or Edithvale.

Quick nine at dawn on Oakleigh public (almost a pitch and putt course). 5 over. Made a couple of long putts which was nice. 4 greens in reg....better than my 18 yesterday....golf would be so much easier without having to use long clubs.

Having said that, the first hole 321m par four would have to be one of the toughest short holes in Melb. Massive slope hill on the left covered in thick bracken, gums and logs. Creek on the right with big gums causing havoc if you draw the ball. It is a double dog leg needing a fade/slice tee shot followed by a big draw approach shot. I would love to see a pro play it. I have given up.....8 iron tee shot, followed by a (60m) 7 iron pitch to position and a wedge approach. Pretty much gets you a bogey start but removes a 6 or higher score.

Thankfully mine was in Port Douglas, so bad golf is really "good times"

I find that hole really tough, and people laugh at me when I tell them the first hole at one of the easier courses in Melbourne is brutal. You take it on and there's chaos both left and right with only that tight window in the middle, even if you land it, you then still need to draw your second shot to be any chance of making the green. The big trees on either side also overhang which limits your shots as well if you happen to be under them on your second shot, and off the tee they can come into play if you try and play down the right. I think the best I've done on that is a double bogey 6, which I'm often content with.

How busy is it down at Glen Waverley these days? I've only played it once in the mid winter when it was a bog, but wondering what it's like now given the dry.

Dry and fast. One of the best publics if you want a spur of the moment round without booking in advance. Always spots available. $25 after 3 twilight golf, you sometimes have dream runs without too many on course.

I think - THINK - yesterday it clicked.

I had 39 points including a pick up on the easiest hole on the course.

I found almost every fairway, but had to scramble to salvage a few holes, sunk some clutch putts, chipped well, only thing I really battled with was a handful of bunker shots, and my hybrids.

Just be prepared for her to leave as quickly as she comes. Form is a brutal mistress.

I’ll tell you what, the mental part of the game is so fragile.

I have used the same single ball three rounds in a row. A bright red Callaway extra soft. For no real reason I changed today to it’s Orange counterpart. Immediately I put a tee shot in the drink, lost all shape on my drives, ended up losing the original red one as well, and generally just made mistakes that I couldn’t even put my finger on.

On the flip side I am holing basically anything within 12 feet simply because my confidence is up

107 today at Glen Waverley, great fun. Most of the round was pretty solid, blew out the 15th and 16th where I took 18 strokes over those 2 holes, but everything else I was able to keep relatively in check, lots of bogeys and a few doubles, just need to tidy up some 3 putting and find a few more fairways with the tee shots and I'm definitely close to that under 100 round.

83 at waverley public today. Driving terrible but was ok in the end when I went back to old swing. Putting below average. Some good irons from time to time but was all a bit average golf wise for me. Front nine very slow but back was moving quicker. Joined the couple in front...Lady was great...bloke was terrible.

Bloke happened to be our one and only Juss!!!! In all seriousness. I have played a few times with Juss and he has improved out of sight. Was Driving much better, has developed a very good pitch and run around the greens and is a solid putt. Just needs to tidy up a few areas and will continue to improve. Was stoked to see the improvement. Bravo!

Love it mate. I've been taking putting tips from the Grand Master Scrappy.
