(fwiw, I would have dealt him)
I've read multiple times you say this Yoda, why give you club leadership a pass?

Good trade/bad trade, good amount of picks or not, Welsh has put your club back.

If this was the other way around I wouldn't defend it one bit.

maybe, the deal was a poor one for Essendon. Welsh or not.

I understand comprehension for many is a strange concept but look deeper and one can understand why we passed on it

(fwiw, I would have dealt him)

GWS didn't come to the party with Oliver and the offer was poor.

Both teams look like winners. Winning every trade should have disappeared with Dodo.

as I said, can understand why Welsh did not want to trade Merrett.

Do I agree with it ?
no

Do I understand why it was not done ?
yes

GWS were also in a race with Geelong and Collingwood (bypassed) before settling on the West of Sydney, drives up price when battling with other teams it seems. See Petracca also, see Curnow also

Essendon need players not picks for Merrett IMO.
They will be void of good leadership when he goes.
this was borderline the crux of why we didnt bother with the hawks deal. We wanted a mature, best 22 player not deadwood Hawthorn is likely to delist at the end of this year anyway

You know this to be untrue. 'Everyone' agreed to terms until little man 'Welch' puffed out his chest and said "not on my watch" ..........laughable. Was always going to be the case.

Will be very difficult to get players to agree to go there

Many Hawks were offered the chance to go there as part of the deal. All said no. Poor Henry only agreed after recognizing he wouldn't play at all for us and would likely start 22 games there given how rubbish their midfield is.

Hence why whenever the thread goes quiet, old mate wants to talk about a Hawks player and nothing to do with Zac.

As I continue to say, Hawks supporters really are unhinged about Essendon with how much they flood Essendon threads
Mate the amount of comments you have about Hawthorn is just the same. You have some victim complex and it’s really weird, you engage with hawk fans and they engage back

Not just Yoda. The Dons are in full time Seige mode.... Us against the world.

The problem with a seige, is you can only turn to those inside the "Castle", hence they go back to the pool of Essendon people, Solomon, Hird, Welsh.

The bomber faithful see it as the only way, and the cycle continues (much to our collective enjoyment)

But it was the best you can get for a player that wanted out and gave top service during his time at the club,Its not like he was going to change his mind 12 months later or you were going to get a better deal.

(fwiw, I would have dealt him)
Then why are you defending the decision of Welsh ? Strange

Yep.

And just like last year - they know Hawthorn will be offering picks for him.
So they should be in deep conversation with their chosen targets from whichever club, so they can immediately convert those picks into the appropriate players for their list.

If one or more of those targets is on Hawthorn's list then they should be in deep convos with that player already so that player's manager is proposing that player as part of the deal.

Yes i think it'll need to be a 3 or 4 team gang bang to work.

Like how we discarded that Box Hill player Jai Serong who didnt play a single AFL game in 2025 to the cellar dwellers Sydney.

Wait, he has played every game. In a top 2 team.

It is hilarious when Essendon supporters talk down players from other teams and say they didnt have any list spots. Just hilariiousnessness.

If HH was replaced with Serong that offer would have been a great trade imo
