Jeez, Goose can't be far off surely?

Am hearing he's had some very impressive stats.

He did, and what was promising is that he had a stint down back, in the ruck and down forward and you would think him rucking would be the biggest indicator of how his leg is feeling at the moment.

We did end up losing by 6 points though, finished strong just couldn't kick straight.

I know Gwilt, Mini, Eddy etc. are flying at the moment but seriously surely a guy like Maguire is too good to be wasting away in the seconds?

I'd like to see him back in the next couple of weeks, was one of my favourite players and his 100th game will be one of the most richly deserved ever.

He was very impressive in the forward line (including some time in the midfield, too) and very vocal about it. He may have found himself a new position as he appears to not be close to selection for the backline (Miles, btw, played quite well, I thought).

Sautner did not play, but I cannot imagine that Maguire played in the forward line without the full backing of Ross Lyon. Interesting. With Gilbert playing in AA form, Maguire may be that third tall option forward.

He also spent some time in the ruck (whenever Stanley rested in the forward line - Stanley, by the way, was very good, against O'Hailpin and is extremely mobile and quick on his feet around the ground - this young man may become a star), but I don't think that Gardiner and King will be too worried about their position...

... in the seconds ...

You should not refer to Sandringham as "the seconds" or "reserves". They are a VFL team affiliated to St Kilda and not St Kilda's "seconds".

They have some very good players who dominate their positions in the VFL. To refer to them as "seconds' does not give them the respect they deserve - Nick Sautner as the most obvious example has been the VFL's leading goal kicker seven times and is probably a more accurate kick than any of St Kilda's forwards.

Goose has shown one of the most endearing qualities for Ross Lyon - versatility. Ross loves people who can do a little bit of everything, and that have a lion's heart. Maguire has shown that in spades. If he can play like that, he will be a better version of Blake and Gwilt... Obviously, Blake will not and should not be dropped, and it's a crying shame for Gwilt, but come on, bring Goose in.

Goose has obviously done some work on his goalkicking - totally different technique and seems to be working for him (most of his shots went through the middle, some from 40m into slight wind). Makes him a different proposition as a potential forward.

Huge knock early on poor Leigh Fish - they were talking plastic surgery.

Miles got chopped up by Brad Fisher early, but worked his way back into the game.

Begley was OK again - 18 poss, 8 marks.

Armo got 21 poss, but not sure the club would have been over-enthused with some aspects of his game.

Stanley is a real prospect (very quick), but not in the actual ruckwork at this stage. Sandy got smacked in the ruck, and for mine that's where they lost the game.

Jack (17 poss) was pretty good - can easily see him in a Saints guernsey down the track.

If Heyne works a bit harder off the ball, he definitely can make it. Did some clever things.

Simpkin seems very light - some way off. Connors must have been dizzy going off and on the ground. Not sure about Smith.

Howard again does some nice things but does not run with the ball.

fair enough, call it a slip of the tongue/keyboard :thumbsu:

although I swear Gram referred to Sandringham as the ressies or something on the sunday footy show couple weeks back, obviously he was unaware of the taboo on the terminology as well :p

Maybe he's still short of a gallop after having an interrupted pre-season, but I thought for a guy who is trying to break into a stable AFL team he didn't work hard enough. Don't get me wrong - he's courageous, kicks the ball pretty well, and is a decent mark for someone his size. But compared to Geary's games at AFL level, and Eddy's in the VFL (and to an extent at AFL) he isn't bashing the door down.

He did.

And on the weekend even one of the commentators made the blue when talking about one of the St Kilda listed players.

hey guys did Raph play for Sandy? And can someone please tell me how Lynch is going for our first round pick? There never seems to be any info on him?

No Raph didn't play.

Lynch had to stand up since Sautner was a late withdrawal and was very quiet, led up but didn't really do much to stamp authority or show sublime touch or skill. In a word I'd just say solid.

Good call. Only got there at 1/2 time, but he showed real promise. A good sign for the future
