Sheffield Shield Round 10: Western Australia v NSW @ WACA

:( Rain-affected draw (with NSW on top and getting more bonus points than us) is the most likely outcome now resulting in a 1. vic 2. WA finish

Earlier it was touted that WA might host the final from second due to world cup venue unavailability (which would have been awesome, can't think of a single time in cricket or footy where a WA side has played an "away" final at home against an interstate opponent, yet the opposite scenario has happened lots of times!) , but haven't heard this suggestion in a while , so I take it they'd use a regional ground ? Or maybe MCG will be available afterall

MCG will not be available because of the World Cup final

It would be farcical if the Junction Oval was allowed to host.

Manuka would have to be a possibility

All we had to do was not completely spud it up. Nice start boys...

Yup, dropped a nice dolly and it cost us big time. From memory we lost our last shield match last season when it counted as well. Going to have to bat bloody well here to stop this happening again.

All WA can now hope for is to finish second (ie to fight it out for a draw) as Vic have gained >3 bonus points already (and look set for a win , thereby extending their lead ). It has been lightly showering for the last couple of hours here (15km from the WACA ) but not drizzling/affecting the cricket? .

If my maths are correct - we just need to hold onto 5 wickets inside the 100 overs

If we can do that and bore out the game - we qualify second
No, we just need to play out a draw!
NSW were 3.66 points behind us before this match started , now they are still more than 2 points behind (and as the fielding team they can't earn more than 1.5 bonus points ) so they can't catch us on bonus points alone (they need outright victory )

Can't they get 2 points for first innings? Or is that no longer a thing?

I know these two are intentionally batting for a draw, but how insipid are NSW's bowlers that they can't snare a single wicket after an extended day of 109 overs.
