He obviously has family links to the number. Fair enough IMO.
If they where going to give it to someone it deserves to be him.
No problem with it. If we were drafting a young Matthew Richardson would you be happy with him getting 12? Of course. He is an exception. Maurice was his great uncle and he thinks of him as his grandfather. 17 is the right number for him. Give him every chance to do it proud.

Who ever got the number next would be under pressure. IMO it's best to give it to a family member.

Just handing out a number based on a surname is living in the past, I'd hoped we'd moved on from this by now. I mean we had, but then we made an exception.
The pressure is why you wait until a player has shown that they'll make it before you give it to them
Like Vlastuin moving from #31 to #1 this year, or Dusty going from #36 to #4
Also the fact that it makes them realise they need to earn their position and the respect from an important number

I don't agree. We gave pick 12 up pretty quickly after Richo retired.
There's been enough time and with another Rioli at the club it makes sense
