Ive got no interest in going there but I also didnt release a media statement saying i was going there (when 99% of people know they wont go there)

Look I'd wish they'd just say we are happy to play against Pakistan but that's where it should end I know I won't hold it against anyone who pulls out of a series in Pakistan

I'm just glad the final is over so we can revert to Australia's favourite past-time, giving ill-informed opinions on who should actually be playing in the next match.

We enjoy it far more than we do the actual cricket.
I can see why you mod this board. ;)

In fact I was shocked it was announced being in Pakistan the UAE runs well

I heard Pakistan wont agree to any tours anymore in the UAE as the home side.

Reasoning was if they let one country play them in Dubai then everyone else will just say you let so and so play there why do we have to play pakistan and lose there leverage

T20 is a domestic game for me with maybe the odd world cup. I dont watch any of it except a handful of aussie games this world cup.

Much the same, I'm not an avid watcher or fan or this baseball style format, so some comments in here I find curious, like, do 'wickets in hand' really have that big of an influence on final totals..?
How many of the top 4 or 5 international teams ever get bowled out in T20 matches..? I mean, there are some T20 games I've watched where I doubt reversing the batting order would make any real difference whether setting a score or chasing one..?

I could count on one hand the amount of IPL or Big Bash games I've watched in my life, so I'm far from knowledgeable on the strategies for this slog-a-thon format, just seems some punters are way over-stating the related tactical nuances of this..?

Results from the semis worked out well for me once India got eliminated in the group stage. Didn't want the Pakistanis winning as we wouldn't have heard the end of it from them. Didn't want the Kiwis winning because that'd make Doull push the agenda NZ are the best all format team of this generation, when I think they're very good across all formats without being the best in any one.

Didn't mind England winning it tbh as they're far and away the best white ball team out there, but then felt Australia always deserved a T20 WC as they had never won it and it felt odd for a team of Australia's stature to not have the T20 WC in its cabinet. Also favour Aus over Eng in the Ashes generally, so all worked out well in the end:D

Finch was crucial in winning all the tosses in the games that mattered. But think he has become a Brearley or late career Dhoni now, basically a specialist captain who doesn't add much to the team. Smith is also not in Australia's best T20 XI, I would still have him in the squad for the next WC in Australia, but would keep him on the bench initially.

Amazing to see so many posters calling for Starc to be dropped in white ball cricket. If I'm compiling the list of bowlers to rank the GOAT bowler in ODI cricket, Starc and Wasim Akram would be right up there at the top. Perhaps T20 format may not be his best format, but the T20 format itself is a lottery, so weird to drop your best bowler based on one bad T20 game. Come the next 2023 ODI WC in India, Starc will still be Australia's best bowler.

I would still say that over the last six or seven years the Kiwis are the best side across all formats.

2015 50 over World Cup finalist
2016 T20 World Cup semi finalist
2019 50 over World Cup finalist
2021 Test championship winners
2021 T20 World Cup finalist

They’ve also won 10 of their last 12 Test series and have become as difficult to beat at home as anyone. On paper India are probably a better side, however the results across all three formats don’t reflect that.

Depends on how you rank sides tbh. Whether you rank consistency or the ability to do it when it matters. I think India are the best side in Test cricket, and (I know this is a controversial opinion) Aus are a better test side than NZ given their performance in the Ashes in England and home and away results against the Kiwis the last time they played them. But the Kiwis did it when it mattered in the WTC final, so fair play to them.

Similarly I think England are by far the best white ball team of this generation and I think they have revolutionised the LOI game in this era. But for some reason, they seem to falter with their uber attacking brand of cricket in the knockouts and you could make a case NZ won the ODI world cup final, despite them not being particularly spectacular in the format like Eng were. India are very good in Test cricket but are chokers in LOI cricket, a bit like Graeme Smith's South Africa. Eng are not great in Test cricket to be all format contenders and neither are Aus spectacular in LOIs, this WC win notwithstanding. So yeah, NZ indeed are probably the best all format team combined, without them actually being the best in any of the formats, if that makes sense.

Elephant in the room is Mitchell Starc.

Should he be considered automatic selection anymore in any format.

Seems like they are still picking him based on 2015 form.

His batting has dropped off in recent years not thats why he was getting picked but it seems his all round game in all forms is am absolute rabble atm

It's harder to bowl second with the dew having an effect, it's no coincidence the team bowling first and batting second won both the semis and the final.

That being said our bowlers still didn't bowl well, apart from Boult who was outstanding with 2/18 from 4 overs, if he bowled 10 overs we would've won.
If they were a better side they might have won as well ;)

All the Langer haters are strangely Quiet.........
Did they all forget how he did the near impossible to retain the Ashes (we should really have won that series 3-1) only a few years ago away in England. We were always sh*t in T20 but hit the right form this WC, I'm still not sure why Smith, Hazlewood and to some extent Cummins is playing this format.

It certainly is a super interesting question. I think on the basis of consistency across all formats, factoring in the ability to perform in big games/tournaments, NZ are the best side from 2015 onwards.
