Its why there such are such a likeable team.

They knock out the heavyweights for us so we can then pounce of them in the final.

Until the kiwis beat us in a major tournament final or a test series they will have that asterisk over their head they cant beat Australia when it counts.

Ironically they probably have a better record against the powerhouse India then what we do.
Over the last 5 or so years there's been a real scissors-paper-rock thing beteween Australia, India and New Zealand.

Australia can't beat India.
India can't beat New Zealand.
New Zealand can't beat Australia.

if Hazelwood didn't drop the simple catch
Tale a squizz at the replay. Not as simple as some making out. Josh had never gotten himself into position as he had to move quite a way. Have no doubt had he had time to settle under the trajectory he'd have snaffled it.

You say no room for Smith, Hazlewood and Cummins in this format. Even in 20 overs you need someone to anchor the side. Smithy then becomes a vital cog when we are, say, 3 down for under 50. Cummins is over rated in this format and up till this tournament I never rated Hazlewood in white ball, specially at the death.
Really want to see Adam play some red ball cricket now.Could be a test bowler.
I like Zamps and now he is back home be glad to see him play white ball cricket for the Blues soon. As for Tests.. he has never grasped red ball cricket.. 38 -105- @ 48 FC. Swepson is a country mile ahead of him as our next Test wristie tweaker with Tanveer Sangha nipping at his heels. IMO the kid is already being groomed as our long term Test spinner..

The true man of the series was Finch winning 6/7 tosses.. with how heavily batting 2nd is more advantageous it would've been better to do a best of 3 or have it during the day. None are appealing unfortunately.

The Hazlewood catch came fast, but for an international cricketer, it should've been taken.

You shouldn't need an anchor in T20.
Look at the way the Poms play.
They have 6 or 7 big hitters.

Australia still pick pretty much a test side with a few changes whereas England pick T20 specialists.

I'm obviously glad we won the cup, but I think most people would say England are the best team.
They also had Roy, Mills, Stokes and Archer unavailable.

But do the Poms regularly lose early wickets for few runs as we tend to do. This is where Smith as our anchor is vital as he steadies the teetering ship, nudges it around at a run a ball until the innings in back on an even keel. Smith was a born cricket anchor and has been doing it brilliantly since his recall to our Test side. Forgive the marine parlance......

Agree. Because as you alluded to.. they pick specialists.

Exactly. Haze is a big bloke so not overly agile or quick. Not someone with cat like reflexes like a Maxwell or Warner.

Smith's role is to do what Williamson did for NZ in the final- nudge himself to 15 from 15 and then start accelerating. He's not as good as Williamson in the T20 game imho, but he's good enough to play this role but probably needs to be coming in at 4. He has had such an innings a couple of times for Australia previously.

I still prefer the English approach of going hard.
Smiths fine when you're chasing 170, not 190.

I'd much prefer an Inglis, Lynn or someone else takes it on.

Who said that England will take smashing Australia in the group stages as confidence boost into the Ashes?
England players selected for the Ashes in the T20 team have to travel with the whole Australian team back to Australia.. Enjoy

Only the casual fans were upset about Marsh in the white ball set up, when fit has always been one of our best options, particularly for T20s. The frustration is that he’s been given too many opportunities in the test setup for a guy that averages 25 with the bat and 38 with the ball.

And as for Langer “hate”, the criticisms of his previous performances were and still are valid. It appears he has mixed his style up and it’s done wonders, and well done to him. However, a T20 tournament where we had luck go our way is not the same challenge as a gruelling 4-5 test series where we’ve been challenged, eg, last summer. If he’s still around for the next India tour that will be the real test.
