Nishikori gone?? Must still be struggling with that injury from wimbledon..
Benoit Paire is a very good player. I must say I wasn't surprised when I saw the score this morning. No way Nish should have been paying $1.07.

Serena vs Diatchenko this is tragic tennis surely she is injured. Diatch serving like a park tennis player

Paire is good but you would still expect nishikori to account for him

Statistically Paire has the worst serve in the top 100, particularly his first serve % and first serve winning %. Big weakness to have to be defined as a 'good' player

Bad news, paired with Fred Stolle, my ears are bleeding

I HATE how he mispronouces names! Calling Djokovic "Joke-a-vitch", Kokkanakis "Coke-an-naykis".

And he know absolute squat about anyone except Roger Federer, what he had for breakfast, what his s**t tastes like etc....

Day One:
Surprised Nishikori is out, thought he would be a smokey chance to win this tournament.
Anyone see Groth's match? Did he easily dispose of Dogopolov?
Millman and Ebden just unfortunately drew tough opponents.
Little bit disappointed in Dasha and Dellacqua- they should have beaten their round one opponents on paper.
Cibulkova, Coco and Dodin good upsets wins over Ivanovic, Stephens and Jankovic.

Coric is going to be a star. Really loved how he gave 110% from start to finish against Nadal. Carried himself well, and never dropped his head.

So many retirements, what is going on? It's only 31 degrees and Kokk pulls out after serving underarm due to cramps.
Hewitt looked good but his opponent pulled out early in 3rd.
Who do you think will win between Tomic and Hewitt next round?

Apparently there was really high humidity to go with that 31 degrees. Having been in New York, when you get the humidity mixed with the warm to hot temperatures it can be tough to cope with (and I didn't have to play elite sport in those conditions).

From what I read too Kokk only retired after advice from the chair umpire to consider his health, so he definitely tried to push through it as much as he could.

Very interesting match to watch. One of the gutsiest tennis competitors ever (up there with Jimmy Connors) verses probably the biggest pea heart to ever play the game.

If Hewitt keeps up with Tomic for a couple of sets, I predict a retirement by Tomic. If Tomic takes the first set easily, then he will walk away with the match I reckon.

Deferring sometimes makes sense I reckon. Let the opponent choose what they want to do, and if they choose to serve you can make them serve into the sun. Makes no sense on Arthur Ashe in the evening though.
