Andrew Dillon has been appointed as the new chief executive of the AFL following a 12-month search for Gillon McLachlan’s successor.

Andrew Dillon beat a field of candidates including Richmond CEO Brendon Gale, Western Bulldogs president Kylie Watson-Wheeler and fellow AFL executives Travis Auld and Kylie Rogers to the job of leading the country’s biggest sporting organisation.

The AFL club presidents and CEO’s were to be informed of the appointment via a video-phone conference at 8.30am on Monday.

For all the crap Gil copped he'd actually done pretty amazingly during his tenure. Leading the game through COVID, AFLW, record broadcast deals, Tasmania, Gather Round, and the game being in the best shape financially than it's ever been. He'd always been less robotic compared to previous CEOs and wasn't afraid to admit his mistakes (cough cough AFLX). Cheers Gil, and good luck.

Here's hoping Andrew goes just as well.

Dillon, you son of a bitch

But he was urged to stay on by the AFL commission amid a global search for a replacement.
What a waste of money to put the guy on in the next office

Another North hater as CEO of the AFL just wish that my club could live under the umbrella of Protection like the QLD and NSW clubs plus the Western Bulldogs and St.Kilda.

CEO appointed about 2min ago and North already claiming persecution.
