I'm talking about the pack mentality in general - guys doing stupid things together when there's a group of them. Mindless violence, bashings, rioting etc.

It's not just restricted to football.

It doesn't happen much any more but most clubs have a history of this sort of thing. Young, fired up, pissed up, uneducated blokes with a bit of dutch courage. It's quite painful to watch and must have been pretty traumatic for the bloke in the middle of it.

It reminds me of Tony Evans account of Heysel, it's a very thought provoking read of how things can just turn dark for no particular reason.

You dont see this kind of stuff today anymore. Except for Chelsea. Just always seems to be Chelsea. A real shame. That bloke who got punched must have been pretty scared surrounded like that.
Yeah that video is like a real throwback. Does anyone know where and when it was taken?

Football certainly seems to attract this behaviour more than any other sport or even any other social setting.

There is just a raw tribal-ness about it the brings out the worst in some people. It's a society problem that attached itself to football

Yep, you'd never see Liverpool fans causing any problems.

Chef you are aware of your fans reputation right?

Liverpool had an appalling reputation - but no longer (unless being wet melts counts)

Everybody had appalling reps in the 70's and 80's. Hooliganism ran riot. It's all been cleaned up now. Except for Chelsea who are still pretty bad.

So we are now condemning whole supporter groups because of the actions of a couple of fans?

Booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!

Liverpool were among the worst actually.

It's all in the past though so it doesn't need revisiting.
