Big Bob McLean is the only, club only administrator post WWII to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. All the other guys who served footy post WWII and were inducted as administrators of leagues not clubs or a couple were administrators of club for a short time before a long time administrator of a league.

That fact by itself, says a bloody lot about Big Bob's ability.

Jacko has a touch of the Granger's - big leap, huge handball, not as good a kick, not as quick and a bit of mongrel, but nowhere as much as Dave.

Cam Mooney had a bit of the Granger's about him.

If Lyon can't take more than a wicket or two on big turning pitches then Ian Chappell is right, he is a liability.
Bah. How did Warne go over there? Lyon played well in Australia last summer. Stuff you all :)

It was decided to split it into 2 as it ended up being pretty long, so theres no natural outro.

In regards to John Abley, this picture is of him at Port training in 1957. Is their anything to this guernsey? Was it a designated training top? First Bib haha.View attachment 91866

In the days of the interstate carnivals the players often exchanged guernseys at the end of a game. I would say that big V is a guernsey the late John Abley picked up during his all Australian efforts. He would have had a few so I imagine he occasionally wore one to training. The thing about John Abley is that he was recruited from Hawthorn as a ruckman but Fos turned him into a full back. As the PAFC website will tell you JA was originally going to play for Glenelg and his brother Kevin played for the Bays for many years. In Abley's day All Australian teams were only named at the conclusion of the interstate carnivals which were held every four or five years. From memory John Abley was named All Australian full back on three occasions.
