People who use "two wrongs don't make a right" never seem to explain how "one wrong does make a right".
In the real world, "two wrongs don't make a right" but "two wrongs can be closer to a fairer outcome".
It definitely should have been a free kick to Trent, surprised it wasn't tbh.
But, as others have said, and the new rules state, petulance, surrounding refs etc is now a yellow card.

Not sure how throwing away a ball is a fairer outcome. Nor do I see anyone saying one wrong makes a right.

Gordon bumps TAA in the back and sends him off the field. No free kick. Wrong.
TAA throws the ball away. Yellow card. Right.
TAA arm over the shoulder to stop Gordon. No 2nd yellow. Wrong.
Two wrongs and one right and we ended up with a fair outcome that TAA was not sent off. Only the ref would know whether he put the two incidents together to adjudge that it wasn't worthy of a red card.

The ref didn't think it was a foul at the time (wrongly imo). Why would he give any consideration to Alexander Arnold's petulance?
I dunno, probably for the same reason he watched Gordon kick the ball away from a Liverpool free kick less than 30 seconds afterwards?

Like I said, maybe he put the two incidents together to deem that it wasn't worthy of a red card.

Was talking about the yellow, he thought Alexander wasn't fouled and he threw the ball away. His only decision once he'd deemed no foul was whether or not it was worthy of a yellow.
According to the new guidance it was imo.
As for the second yellow, he bottled the decision like many refs do.
