Injury Fev & Brown Out

If the medical department have given the ok for them to play ...not much we can do..... it's not like we can ask for a second opinion...

Short term, that is correct.

Over the long term though it is something that we need to investigate if we believe it is hindering us on the field.

I really wish they would just rest the injured players. I kind of get the feeling that even if the medical guys insist they don't play, they will be picked to save face on the previous 4 weeks where they were chosen despite the facts.

But, i'm not going to lose sleep over it now. the lions season is basically over. I really will not be surprised if the crows "get up" over the lions. Actually, are the lions even favorites to win???

Browny interview on TFS:

- First game of the year tore/strained his abs
- Carried it for a bit but "stirred it up against the Doggies"
- He's been sore since but it is tracking upwards
- No OP
- Not groins
- He's definitely playing this w/e
- Flying to adelaide early had been teed up for a while as a part of ongoing maintenance
- Fev's "had a few groin issues and he's getting the treatment as well but he expects him to be out there on Sunday. Said that groin issues can cause a loss of power and speed, which is "Fev's game" but it was less noticeable with Browny cos he's "not the quickest bloke going around".

Cheers bob.

This explains why he's been playing so close to goal and trying to outmark his opponents in a contested situation. Here's hoping to greater output from this week onwards :thumbsu:

Read in Courier Mail that Vossy said Brown was almost 100% fit now after the treatment in Adelaide but Fev was line ball. Fev taking longer to respond to treatment. Voss also said that the treatment had been scheduled in advance as something they would do

Despite the assurances in the TFS interview I was left with the impression that there's a genuine question mark over Fev playing this weekend. Whether that was body language or me jumping at shadows I don't know, however the inclusion of ACorn on the extended bench doesn't boost confidence.

Brendon Fevola doubtful despite treatment

A week of intensive treatment may not be enough for a recuperating Brendan Fevola after Brisbane Lions coach Michael Voss admitted the star forward was in doubt for Sunday's clash in Adelaide.

Fevola and skipper Jonathan Brown have spent this week with an Adelaide specialist ahead of the AAMI Stadium fixture as both attempt to overcome abdominal tears.

While Voss declared Brown a "certain starter", the same could not be said for Fevola.

"Yeah, there is a bit of doubt (over Fevola)," Voss said in Brisbane today.

"Brown is a certain starter. Fev is less chance than Browny.

"We are hopeful. Until he starts running around we don't know." A final word on Fevola may not be made until Saturday.

Take it for what its worth, Cornelious, Austin and Johnstone named in the reserves team.

Ditto.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but five weeks ago after Browny obviously seriously injured himself (prior to?) in the Bulldogs game I said he should be rested.

How do you overcome an abdominal tear. I would assume only through rest. However, amateur hour at the Lions will undoubtedly continue unless something completely surprising happens and they say enough is enough.

The only person he's fooling is himself.

He said it is a lack of being able to train that is causing the poor form.

Maybe he is right, who knows.

It seems people want miracles though, it's not as if resting Brown will make us win next week. We are just in a major s**t happens rut right now.

That raises the question though, if Brown is unable to train and they're aware that it has a serious impact on his form, why are they letting him onto the park?

He's clearly not right and just hoping that he's going to stumble into form by continuing to play seems like a catastrophically stupid approach.

exactly....he's not training for a reason...and that reason?..he's got an injury that stops him..

..but we are suppose to just accept that and believe there is no injury:rolleyes:..and watch him struggle week in, week out, not being able to contribute to the team at all.....yeah right Vossy:(

First off, I don't exactly know how you recuperate from an abdominal tear, but my guess is it just takes rest / time to heal and not surgery (unless it is really really bad). Playing with it could very well aggravate it (this is what happened against the Bulldogs).

If he needs to rest for a month then let him rest for a month. At the moment Brown has become a negative for the team.

CLARK TO CENTRE HALF FORWARD. He needs a position, he will do great there I reckon. Come on Voss, open your mind.

(Having said all that, Voss is showing signs of a level of stubbornness only surpassed by Andrew Demetriou).

Seems like a injured Browny with a 0.0 is believed to be giving us more compared to a fit but inexperienced A-Corn - who could atleast chase and tackle and give 100% on the field ? I don't know how to explain it.

TBD, it looks more like Vossy is expecting a miracle playing Brown every week.

Yesterday it was just sad watching Browny. He reminded me of myself one day rucking in the Under 15's and the coach at half time told me off for playing like I was the biggest bloke out on the ground and start contributing which did wake me up.

If he's out on the field then he's as good as fit and there is no excuses and Vossy will not accept excuses so then Browny, our no-fearing, legendary captain courageous is now classed as a passenger and is holding his beloved lions back. He really needs to take some time and manage the injury properly as he's going to be arthritic before he hits 40, which is what Vossy is like apparently.

We've got enough tall timber to play up forward and fill the hole and even with Fev alone we've got the big fella covered so why doesn't he take a game or two off as right now he's not doing his reputation any favours as he has got beaten solidly for the past 5-weeks and the backmen are getting good kudos for domineering overy Browny.

Just wondering what you guys think of Brown's fitness after a good game last week? He seems to look great every second weak and terrible every other. Think he's not going to be fit until he gets a rest?

He is still struggling a bit with his fitness, although it does seem to be up and down a bit. He didn't look like he could run at all against Adelaide. While he was better last week, it wasn't like he was at the start of the year. I think he will continue to go up and down in form until he is back to full fitness - when we play well and when his confidence is personally up (due to a few things going his way early in a game) then he seems to lift, but when the opposite happens the drop off looks severe.
