FIFA suspends secretary general Jerome Valcke as crisis worsens

http://www.theage.com.au/sport/socc...valcke-as-crisis-worsens-20150917-gjpeq4.html

FIFA has suspended secretary general Jerome Valcke amid misconduct allegations and announced the 54-year-old will be investigated.

Valcke "has been put on leave and released from his duties effective immediately until further notice," said a FIFA statement.

"Further, FIFA has been made aware of a series of allegations involving the secretary general and has requested a formal investigation by the FIFA Ethics Committee."

The allegations, denied by Valcke, have been made by a consultant at a company that struck a deal with FIFA to sell tickets for the 2014 World Cup but the contract was cancelled.

What are people's opinions about how Sepp will ride this out?

I still feel the Swiss will extradite everyone anyone wants except one of their own.

nice work. Couldn't link as i was on the mobile.

IIRC, Valcke was in trouble years ago, got sacked as marketing director of FIFA but then Sepp promoted him soon after....

Swiss authorities have opened criminal proceedings against Joseph "Sepp" Blatter, the president of soccer's governing body, the country's attorney-general said in a statement on Friday.

Blatter, who has led the Zurich-based organisation for 17 years, is accused of criminal mismanagement and misappropriation, the Swiss attorney-general said.

FIFA 'decimated' by scandals, says presidential candidate Prince Ali
http://www.theage.com.au/sport/socc...ial-candidate-prince-ali-20150926-gjvpdz.html
FIFA presidential candidate Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein of Jordan says that soccer's governing body has been "decimated" by the recent wave of scandals and that he has heard from "many member associations" in the last 24 hours.

And throw in some possible local corruption as well. Looking dodgier by the day this deal.........

FIFA scandal: Coca-Cola, McDonald's say Sepp Blatter must go now

http://www.theage.com.au/business/m...sepp-blatter-must-go-now-20151002-gk0fas.html
Coca-Cola and McDonald's, the top sponsors of FIFA, called for Joseph "Sepp" Blatter to step down immediately as president of world soccer's governing body following a scandal involving alleged bribes and kickbacks.

Budweiser owner Anheuser-Busch InBev and Visa have joined them demanding his swift departure in a strong push for change at the embattled organisation.

Blatter's leaving would allow a "credible and sustainable reform process" to begin, Coca-Cola said overnight in the US.

Oh it's just not fair......... everybody is just so MEAN.....!!!

'Hatred' ruined FIFA president Sepp Blatter's reputation: daughter
http://www.theage.com.au/sport/socc...ters-reputation-daughter-20151004-gk14nn.html
Envy and hatred, rather than any illegality, is to blame for Sepp Blatter's reputation being ruined and it will take several people to do the FIFA president's job in future, his daughter says.

The 79-year-old Blatter rebuffed demands on Friday from four FIFA sponsors to quit immediately rather than stay until February's emergency election after being placed under criminal investigation.

Sepp will fight the recommendation and probably ignore it totally. If he does he isnt breaking any law of Switzerland, so if they call a vote of member associations to kick him out, the majority will back him in.

You gotta wonder how much the shredder has been used since the arrests in late May and how many hard drives and back up drives have been wiped over the last 4 months or so.

Blatter, Platini and Valcke banned for 90 days.

A grand shame that it wasn't permanently

Amazing that his position is still not considered entirely untenable by FIFA (which it has been for years already).

Kinda reminds me of Essendon hanging on to Hird for so long even after every man and his dog knew he wasn't right for the club.

I guess you can't chuck someone out on allegations alone (even though we all know there is much more to it than that).

And its not like the people that vote him in wouldn't be aware of what he has been up to.

Ban ends 6 days before the vote for the next president apparently.

Finally read "The Ugly Game" by Calvert and Blake that methodically outlines how the Qatar World Cup was bought. Makes you realise that the only way for progress is if there is a massive wipe from the executive board. No point Blatter stepping down, and someone like Hayatou stepping in becuase nothing will change.

There is also Sheikh Salman as a possible president. He is only meant to of tortured footballers in Bahrain.

Sepp Blatter: Russia 2018 World Cup 'agreed before vote'

http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/34657900

Suspended Fifa president Sepp Blatter has suggested there was an agreement in place for Russia to host the 2018 World Cup - before the vote took place.

Posted by Twinkletoes on the North board.

If this is Sepp's attempt to try to explain that Qatar wasn't decided beforehand then it's a very poor and/or deluded way of going about it.

Yep Sepp has put the kibosh on Platini getting the presidency. You beat me to it JD. I listened to this in the car today on ABC Radio's World Today program. Sepp said Russia was always going to get 2018 before any vote and then 2022 was to go to USA but Platini pushed Qatar.

I will put the transcript up later when they have typed it up but you can listen to the story at
http://www.abc.net.au/worldtoday/content/2015/s4341286.htm

KIM LANDERS: There's more controversy in the murky world of football politics with comments made by suspended FIFA boss Sepp Blatter to a Russian state news agency.

Sepp Blatter has revealed that Russia was always going to get the 2018 World Cup, because an agreement had been made before a single vote had been delivered. America was then going to get the 2022 Cup. But he's blamed European football executive Michel Platini for pushing Qatar's case instead. Europe correspondent Lisa Millar reports.

LISA MILLAR: There are layers of investigations, multiple accusations of corruption and the man who led FIFA is speaking out, despite being suspended. He tells reporters at the Russian news agency TASS that there was an agreement to give the World Cup to Russia then the US in 2022.

SEPP BLATTER: It was agreed inside the group that we go to Russia because it's never been to eastern Europe and for 2022 we go back to America, and so we will have the World Cup in the two biggest political powers.

LISA MILLAR: But the deal to divvy it up between two world powers didn't go to plan, and Blatter says the head of the European Football Associations. UEFA, Michel Platini pushed for Qatar and ruined America's chances.

SEPP BLATTER: And in a lunch after that, Michel Platini went to say it would be good to go to Qatar and this has changed the whole pattern. Four votes from Europe went away from the USA. If you put the four votes, it would be 12 to 10.

LISA MILLAR: The claims appear astonishing - coincidentally the head of the English Football Association, Greg Dyke, was appearing before a parliamentary committee at Westminster........
