What's your excuse for seeking him out then?

Hughes' problems may not have had as much to do with his eye, as for his ears.
Maybe he shouldn't have been listening to others guiding him along and made his own decisions.

He is being looked at as a scout. As long as he doesn't make the final decisions, I will accept us signing him.

Just on Wayne. He wouldn't be let anywhere near the list management. He'd be filling the pro scout role that we identified the need for a while back

Having said that I do share similar concerns

As for cripps. The timing is perfect. He's living in Melb and he's at a point with the port list where the list management becomes less about u18 talent and more about challenging.

Would be a big promotion for him. Looks like a bloke who sets the bar high.

It's a risky appointment by us but let's face it, given our position and finances any appointment will carry risk

Isnt he in line for a scout role for looking at free agents? Very different to potential draftees. As long as he is only eyes/ears and holds no power, I dont care. At least he would have some background knowledge of current AFL players from their draft years.

Yep, so it has to be someone that has been in recruiting for the last few years then. If he is best (see maybe only?) available, so be it.
I must admit though, if I had to choose a club to get a recruiting staffer from, Carlton would be almost the last club of the modern era of drafting that I would be looking at.

I don't get it though, we got rid of peltch because his role was redundant, and now we are hiring someone to do exactly what peltch did..

Seems to me Hughes is specialising in Trade & FA, where as Pelch oversaw everything..

Technically, it sounds more like somebody to do exactly what Ameet did, before he became COO. My problem isn't the position. My problem is the person they're thinking of for it. You might as well get somebody from West Coast to teach about drug prevention.

Nah, Peltch did FAR more than what this role seems to include. Would have been only 1 of his roles. Peltch did contracts, TPP, etc. etc.
I think a key thing to note in comparison to Peltch is that the $ this role would pay compared to what Peltch was on would be probably 25%. (I think I recall that Peltch was rumored to be on about $450K) I would guess a scout wouldn't be on much more than $100K. $$$ is what cost Peltch his job, and what Finnis is charged with saving.

Ameet has always been involved in the contract & TPP side of things. Last few years it was Ameet and Peltch who handled everything to do with the playing list. Trout worked under them with his team. I think this role for Hughes would be more like the roles that Chris Liberatore and Mark Baynard have as recruiting scouts under Trout.

pelch initially suggested the role, sounded like we didnt have anyone to spend the time on it properly. would have been a fraction of pelch's role. basically someone fully dedicated to the existing talent in the AFL system

plus he'd be much much much much more cheaper than pelch

love the idea of the role..dont like the recent suggestion

but you know what since summers took over, everyone of the leaks have been people that we've shaken our head too, only to end up with someone we have all been happy with. i see this as the same thing, probably another leak to keep our name in the media and them away from the actual target
