Frances Abbott, $60k secret scholarships, plum gigs. Where's the outrage?

Can private institutions give scholarships to whoever they like is the question?

Keeping in mind scholarships are not simply for the brightest or poorest students. Contrary to popular opinion.

If its truly private, probably. If its supported or subsidised by the tax payer, questionable.
The thing is it is not a good look for any politician to put himself in the position where it looks like favoritism. He gets paid enough to avoid such a position. His preaching to us is not backed up by his personal actions, that includes being paid out of the public purse to ride his bike!

Yes why would that be?

Don't you find it strange that all of these students she attended the course with who have such passioante views on the matter that they want to air it for all the nation to hear about said nothing back then? You'd think if it was such a problem for them they'd have contacted someone to let this be known back then.

Is it obvious it was kept hush hush or did nobody give a s**t back then when he wasn't PM?
If you had read the story, and weren't just busy trying to defend Abbott, you would know that the students have said they had no idea she was on a scholarship. It was only after the it was a news story, that they became aware of it.

A private institution pays the $60k, and enrols a new student. They have done this twice, in 25 years.
It turns out, this student, is the daughter of our current PM.
Within a year, this private institution has now been OK'd by the Federal Government, to teach Masters (A level they had been unsuccessfully trying to obtain for years).

You see nothing at all in this?
The Obeid's would love you!

Well there must be overwhelming evidence like a phone tap or paper work to prove TA was the architect of it all. He should be gone in a few months ala Craig Thompson with all of this evidence they have to prove he made it all happen.

Voters dont need evidence. Its " the vibe". Which can turn very quickly

because nobody knew about it! that's the point that seems lost...

No, nothing to see here at all, all above board...

https://newmatilda.com/2014/05/30/chief-liberal-fundraiser-linked-private-college-donations

A prominent Liberal Party fundraiser at the centre of a NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption investigation for alleged illegal political fundraising is one of three directors of a private Sydney ‘for profit’ college that has provided dozens of donations to the NSW Liberal Party in the past few years.

That school - Group Colleges Australia (GCA) - stands to profit substantially from proposed federal reforms to the higher education sector.

Jesus Christ.

If we don't revolt over this s**t - and we won't - then in some ways we deserve the serfdom that is fast headed our way.

Our grandkids won't deserve it but hey, they won't know any better, so **** 'em, amirite?

Spot on. Trouble is people only revolt when it's their side not doing it.

The people are getting what they deserve.

Is there anything that this current government/ministers, PM has done that you disagree with or are you just anti anything Labor/Greens supporters believe in?

Paid parental leave scheme is a ******* joke.

Also the Liberals not having Turnbull as their leader is a moronic move.

Turnbull leading the Libs = another 4 years of Labor in power

I don't see it that way. I see Turnbull as someone who has a lot of Malcolm Fraser like qualities.

The only problem in Australia is that we don't seem to like moderate Politicians. Turnbull, Beazley etc

Rudd and Gillard would have had Turnbull on toast
Even the short time Turnbull was LOTO he had been found totally out of his depth.

After Utegate no way would have Turnbull got anywhere near Rudd or Gillard

Agree with OP. Massive stench of corruption about all this. Funny that the political weirdos of the country melted down over Gillard and Thompson's dodgy dealings, yet something that directly influences the legislative process is all cool. This is the kind of thing Obeid was known for (both Moses and Eddie Jnr doing very well out of daddy's crookedness).

Did those mps get done over for a colour tv or a teddy bear back in the eighties ?

This is a whole new level even the guy who loaned his govt phone looks a bit trivial (peter reith)
