Depth is not a massive issue at this stage, yes we will be limited but we ca survive it. From the team that lost to freo, we have goodes, Tippett, Mitchell, Johnson, shaw, franklin , lrt to come in and Mumford and white out ( so far). It will help if we can keep dre and Armstrong,. Membrey , towers and Lockyer will be pushing for games aswell as Perris. Yes we don't have an abundance of depth players but we still have a tough 22 to pick from

if this year taught us anything its that injuries can kill a season, why are we making it harder for us?

the players you listed are all good, but mostly older players

losing a first pick in the draft who showed promise like lamb is just annoying

Can u blame him at the offer he got , Swans would never match it and yer we had a heap of injuries and he still didn't get a game in finals

Plenty of upside. Lamb is a bit of a loss, but good luck to him.

Let's not forget that we are a team that has attracted top ranked players to our team in Franklin and Tippett for no loss of picks or players. The players that self select all remain on the list, with the possible exception of Mumford. The biggest losses this year are retirements (mainly Marty and Jude).

In a team that is vying for Premierships, there is huge competition for spots at the fringe. Lamb may not have won a game next year, especially if Biggs, Cunningham or B Jack step up. He will play a lot more games over at GWS and will get paid better coin. Who can blame him?

Let's not forget the players that we have to somehow squeeze into the team next year (from our PF team): Buddy, Tippett, Goodes, Reid, Shaw, AJ, Mitchell, LRT.

Factor in increased roles for Rohan and Jetta.

Add this list to our guns: Jack, Hanners, Parker, JPK, Macca, Bird, Smith, Teddy, ROK, Mal, Pykey,

That's 21 players who would arguably line up in our best team. Then there's arguments about which of McGlynn, Rampe, X Richards, B Jack, Biggs, Cunningham, Armstrong, Dre, etc (or rookies Membrey, Naismith, Perris or Towers) get a call up to wear the vest or win their spot ahead of the abovementioned players.

Plenty of upside - and we have picks to bring in some younger players to replace the older players who we will expect to retire in the next few years.

It is not yet time to get excited (as 2015 is too far off), but get on board and buy a membership. It is going to be a wild ride!

Let's not forget that the Swans have secured 4 highly sought after players without conceding draft picks or players over the past two seasons. Son-of-a-Sydney-gun, KT, Buddy and Perris.

And frankly I am over this obsession people have with first round picks. Who would you rather retain: Lamb (picked at 21 in 2010) or Parker (picked at 40 in 2010). It's a no-brainer.

Good to keep the big picture in mind.

I hope we talked to Longer and see if he could have been persuaded our way, exactly what we need. We can offer more than the saints can in pick 15 which suits Brisbane, unless they offer their pick 4. Which they'd be mad to do.

He is rated a bit higher, but it would be a similar to our selection of Mummy from the Falcons. Don't know if we have the coin anyway, and I think he wants to get to a Vic based club.

Having said that, who knows what they are doing up in Brisvegas. The club seems to be in turmoil at the moment so you never know.

The word is saints will only offer 25, they have 18, 24, 25 and 4. Unless they package some picks we can trump them with our 15.

Longer has already asked to be traded to St Kilda, I doubt he would change his mind now.

I can't see Longer wanting to go to Sydney unless we offer him heaps, and given we apparently can't afford Mummy, White, Lamb, etc....
It's not that we cannot afford them. We have cap space due to our retirements, but we do not want to get locked into paying Mumford, White or Lamb over what we consider is fair value. Mumford is on good coin over at GWS, and the deal for Lamb would be a significant increase on what we consider he is worth. We need to keep cap space to retain players we actually want, not fringe players that we can take or leave.

Remember that Parker, AJ and Spangher were all drafted after Lamb in the 2010 draft and each has played more games than him since, and are more valuable players (with the possible exception of Matty at Hawthorn).

Why not
First he wanted to go to hawks

He just wants to play AFL, going to melbourne would be an added advantage
Im sure if we approached him and told him he would be in our 22
he would seriously consider us

If he wants guaranteed gametime he is far more likely to get that at St Kilda than Sydney next year.

At St Kilda he will most likely be their number one ruckman.

As for why he didn't go to the Hawks, they picked up Big Boy McEvoy... He would of been lucky to get a game after that with McEvoy, Hale and Roughead all in the same team.

If we had the space for Longer in the cap we would not have let Mumford go leaving us with no ruck depth after Pyke.

They rate Hickey very highly at St Kilda, would be behind him

THats exactly my point, he is leaving for playing opportunities, and with those players at hawks, he wouldnt get it, thats why he changed his mind to the saints, and thats why is we offered him game time, he could change his mind one more time

St Kilda are pretty likely to use Hickey as a forward who can pitch hit in the ruck with Longer taking the number 1 ruck role.

It's all in preparation for the new interchange cap next year.

Going by opinion of St Kilda supporters, HIckey is an excellent tap ruckamn, far better than he is a forward
even by the end of the year they were using McEvoy less and less as a ruckman and more as a forward

But i guess its a moot point as its unlikely he will be a swan

We would have been mad to match the 650k that GWS offered Mummy. No other club would have offered that coin - only GWS. It is well over his market value, but it reflects their needs. We have depth in Tippett, LRT, and Naismith.

Swans recruiting department has earned respect for a reason. Paying overs for Mummy would not have enhanced that reputation.
