Before our trade period I was with you take the needs based tall, now I’m okay with best available and trade for needs
Also I'll point out that if we're into a ruck or KPP that we think goes around 25-30, I'm not saying to use Pick 15. You can either drop back 5-10 spots (need to be confident you'll get the target) and gain something elsewhere, or if there's someone too good to pass up earlier, use the North future pick to get into the early/mid 20s, maybe some other shuffling, then use 3 picks (3rd being Cleary), don't take a Cat A rookie.

In any case, there are a couple of factors that will keep me calmer tomorrow regardless.

1) The potential for May as a Cat B, if we don't take a ruck earlier.

2) There are a few KPFs in the late/rookie range and we might rate one of them for a late pick / Cat A spot (less so KPDs, but then there's also the Ethan Phillips types who missed out back in their draft year, are worth a go now).

3) And then the Arnold/Buller double at the MSD gives me hope we can use that effectively in future (moreso Buller).

Maybe just me coping with the inevitable already though.

I’d honestly trade down to 17&18 if we are wanting Green no one will take him before then. Then bank an extra late first which we can do whatever we want with.

FWIW, Marc McGowan in The Age is still somehow getting O'Sullivan to pick 16 in his latest phantom (as skeptical as that is!)

Otherwise: O’Sullivan is off the board, and Sydney need to look elsewhere. The player most often linked to them is Northern Knights ruckman Will Green, who could develop behind recruit Brodie Grundy, while Wilson or Tholstrup could be available here. There’s been noise about Sandringham Dragons midfielder Charlie Edwards, too.

Also dropped this in at the end - Could Sydney take a flyer on Eastern Ranges ball magnet Tyson Sruk (Midfielder/defender, 180cm, 82kg), who won 37 disposals in the Coates Talent League grand final? 🤷‍♂️
McGowan his well-informed re us.

That said, he's not particularly offering anything new here. We've clearly made no secret our interest in O'Sullivan.

If OSullivan gets that low I’d be hoping we’d offer a future to move a bit up

Depends if we thought someone else was keen. Sheldrick was meant to go late 20s, early 30s, but we thought Cats were interested before then, so just grabbed him late teens.

100% still would be fine if someone took him before us anyway. I’m nervous taking a tall let alone a ruck

Absolutely! Can't call him out quick enough. If that happens, it'll be like McDonald all over again. Going to be some crazy offers floating around if he slips that far.

Can’t see how he gets pas Essendons selection really happy to be wrong though

We're not getting both for pick 12 I feel. It might be ONE of those and a later pick.

HAPPY DRAFT DAY - 814 PAGES OF COMPLETE DRIVEL AND IT ALL COMES DOWN TO THIS....and tomorrow.

The latest on draft selections and confirmation no one really has any idea what we are going to do - but does confirm the Magpies might bid for Cleary at their first pick.

If it's not Collingwood or Adelaide at end of night 1, my guess is it'll be Brisbane at start of night 2 if they trade and get the GC pick.

Although the coincidence of Geelong bidding on him at their 2nd pick, like they did on Errol, would be very apt.

I'm a big fan of McDonald but geez I reckon you've been pretty generous there with the bolded. If anything I would say the major thing that can help him elevate his game would be realising he's actually a big fella and using that to his advantage more.
He'll be all of that when he is no longer a Swan.
We have a pattern of late of not being able to hang onto players once they begin to hit their prime.
It's even happened with our woman's team for Christs sake.
It tires me as a supporter that we get guys like Dawson to the breakout stage & one of two things happen.
We pay them way overs to keep them or we are forced to let them go so they can fulfill their potential else where.

On the other hand there are so many players desperately wanting to play for the Bombers who haven't won a final for 20 years.
The key is hanging onto McDonald type players so they can be with us until the end of their careers. Like Grundy & Nick Smith.

So … we have two picks in the draft.
That is 407 pages per pick.
And we are guaranteed to only get one of them right.

I am questioning the commitment of this board.
Sorry coach, I thought I'd been contributing, getting my stretches in now for a big night*.

*Not going to be a repeat of last year. If we largely ignore needs again (over the 3 days), nothing new to be said.

Would Essendon take:
-pick 12, future 1st, pick 45
for
-pick 9 and pick 35?

This would likely get us to slide up for O'Sullivan (likely) and gives us enough points to match Collingwood bidding with their first pick for Cleary
Who knows. From the multiple reports we've tried every team in the top 10 to move up but no can do. The Cats were open to trading but in their new Dodo Phase the price was too high for everyone.

We hold the cards there North want higher picks. If they want a late pick which we won’t use so be it though makes no difference to us
