Absolutely stoked with my draft haul, with one player in particular being someone I thought was out of reach.

Pick 12: Jedd Busslinger
The Dogs have zero key defensive depth. Next year, those positions will likely be held by a 32-year-old Liam Jones out of a year in the QAFL, a 31-year-old Alex Keath who spent 2022 looking like he'd broken down by the side of the road, and Ryan Gardner, who's a good solid trier rather than someone to build a line around. Human stick figure Sam Darcy can fill in. The Buss is the highest rated key defender in the crop this year, and if all goes to plan could have a Josh Gibcus-like impact in his first year, but more importantly, he has the potential to be a long-term spearhead of a new-look Bulldogs backline.

Pick 24: Lewis Hayes

Absolutely rapt that Hayes slid to this pick and I could pair him up with Busslinger, taking the top two KPD prospects in one fell swoop. Compared to Buss he projects as more well-rounded, with the potential to be a true full back alongside Busslinger's intercepting CHB. I've been nuffing all year about how I'd consider this draft period a failure if the Dogs don't draft at least one promising KPD, and would be bloody delighted to see us taking two, setting our back line up for the long term.

Pick 40: Adam D'Aloia
The Dogs are known for having a great midfield, but with Josh Dunkley having left over the off-season, we only have one best-22 mid under the age of 26, and our depth is mostly promoted Footscray VFL players and a couple of smalls. D'Aloia comes in as a similar player to Dunkley, a clearance machine who's great in the contest and has strong leadership abilities. Could develop into a star under the guidance of Bontempelli and Macrae,.

Pick 55: Jaxon Binns
The Dogs, especially throughout Lachie Hunter's personal leave periods over the last couple of years, mostly treat the wings as a place to put spare inside mids who've got a bit of pace, or defenders who need a change of scenery. A specialist winger in Binns could find a role in our system early on; he can run all day, rack up possessions, clunk marks, and though he needs to clean up his accuracy, doesn't mind a ping at goal.

Would have been good to get a speedy small forward somewhere along the way, which is where I'd be grabbing someone like Seth Campbell in the rookie draft, but I'm pleased with my haul. Four picks, four All-Australians.

Due to a misunderstanding regarding the Crows offer to trade pick 46, Adelaide have missed a pick.

They had a pick after Richmond (Pick 52) and the next one is now.

In order to keep things moving, I'll just pick both here:

Pick 54 - Adelaide - Will Verrell
199 cm ruck/forward from South Adelaide.

Pick 55 - Adelaide - Hugh Bond
184cm/182kg midfielder from GWV Rebels

And, with those picks the Crows are calling it a day.

Back to you RangaInTeal

Sorry my bad boys, I thought it had been traded as such didn't see it. Still very amiture.

Richmond - Jovan Petric - 196cm 88kg - FWD/RUCK

Basically wanted to invest in a developable fwd, not going to chance it in the rookie draft so grab one here, Scaife didn't work out so Jovan gets the nod.
unless melb intervene...if they can...not sure of their list size

if we get Jovan....next up is Big_Newon with geelong

Adelaide Wrap

Pick 35 - Max Michalanney

No surprises here. Was wrapped the bid came a bit later than expected leaving the draft hand in decent shape. Michalanney has already been informed the Crows will match any bid, so this was a no-brainer at Pick 35
Pick 54 - Will Verrall
Verrall will be no stranger to Crows fans. I wanted to get a ruck in the door at some stage and was pleased when Verrall was still available at 54. The local hero performed well at the Champs and was always going to be well in the frame.
Pick 55 - Hugh Bond
Bond will most likely start his AFL life as a defender where his defensive traits, attach on ball and man will hold him in good stead. As his body and tank mature, he may also push into the midfield and add some grunt there as well.

Fremantle Wrap

Pick 41 - Jed Hagan

Hagan is a genuine utility. My hope would be that on Day 1 Hagan is introduced to the forwards coach and begins life as a Docker as a small forward, however, he is just as adept as a defender or occasionally through the midfield. Still hard to believe he was playing Colts when most kids are running around in Year 10A comps.
Pick 44 - Hugh Davies
Was happy to accept a trade that would see this pick move up the order. Davies was the one I was trying to get before he went off the board. With Logue gone and Hamling broken Freo need a developing tall defender yesterday.
Pick 45 - Jackson Broadbent
The easiest pick of the draft. Meek and Lobb both traded means Freo now have just the 2 rucks on the list. Broadbent is already 100kgs to go with his 201cms so will be ready for Round 1 if called on.
Pick 57 (match bid) - Jasper Scaife
I was looking at either a mid or forward with the last pick so happy to match bid on Scaife. 197cm blokes who can kick like Scaife don't grow on trees. The definition of 'upside'.

A couple of the more practical draft hauls seen across Big Footy phantoms. Maybe a bit too tall for Freo, but I see the logic.

51: Richmond: Kaleb Smith

52: GWS: Harry Rowston

53: Geelong: Harvey Gallagher

R4

54: Adelaide: Will Verrall (should have been earlier, missed trade)

55: Adelaide: Hugh Bond (should have been earlier, missed trade)

56: Port: Luke Teal

57: Western Bulldogs: Jaxon Binns

58: Richmond: Jovan Petric

59: Geelong: Jaiden Magor

next is Hawthorn Blackhawk42

Pick 60 - Hawthorn selects Blake Drury.

This wasn't planned, but Drury is an absolute bargain at this late stage. Much like Dylan Moore and Charlie Spargo, Drury is a hard working, undersized midfield who will likely be deployed as a high half forward at AFL level.

From a list management perspective, Drury potentially allows Dylan Moore the opportunity to move into the midfield full time.

From a talent perspective, he is a top 40 proposition in my eyes. Can do it all skill wise and has the firey temperament to form a formidable partnership with fellow draftee Charlie Clarke.

That ends the draft for Hawthorn. My focus was primarily on dynamic players with above average to elite skils.
Once complete I will run through rookie draft and category B/train on invitees. A bit more to play out yet.

7. Cam Mackenzie (balanced midfielder)
27. Charlie Clarke (small forward)
37. Billy Dowling (general midfielder)
42. Jakob Ryan (half back, half forward, wing)
60. Blake Drury (high half forward/midfield)
