Not sure if we want or need this, but seeing as I'm the self proclaimed Statman, I decided to do it anyway. I'll update our stats every week.

Some interesting team stats;

• We are ranked 17th for DE above only Gold Coast. We are the only two teams with a season DE below 70%. We are, however, getting closer to the magical 70% range, currently at 69.3%
• Our kick-handball ratio is 1.469:1. Next is 1.448:1 (Gold Coast). We kick lots. What also helps this is how few handballs we use in general, using only 130.1 handballs per match. The lowest is Gold Coast with 125.1, then us, then Brisbane with 141.3.

• JJ has now equalled Danger in the contested marking field, with 21 each.
• Danger, Thommo, VB, CEY, Dougy, Mackay and Sloane are all averaging over 4 tackles per game.
• Ten Goal Tom appears to have beaten off Eddie for goal and score involvement leaders. Tom has 106 score involvements to Eddie's 105, and 22 goal assists to Eddie's 13. Tex joins in the battle with 15 goal assists and 104 score involvements.
• Jacobs is going at over 10.7 effective hitouts per game (up from ~10.0 last week) at a rate of just over 30% effective hitouts (up from 28.8% last week).

Jenkins has been our best forward for weeks now, starting with the Carlton game. He competes in the ruck as well, but he's never going to seriously dominate that position (and we really don't need him to as Jacobs attends 90% of the contests)

Absolute garbage.
JJ has been our 5th best forward this year.

Tex, Eddie, Charlie and Lynch have all been better. I really don't know where you get that idea from.

Nup cannot agree with saying he's more important than JJ. Lynch definitely is a work horse and does well average a goal or more a game with close to 20 touches. But someone like Danger who's already in our team could just as easy play Lynchs role if we needed and he can actually take a pack mark, Henderson probably could too. I'm not saying Lynch isn't a great player for us because we need him but saying he's more important than Lynch is stupid. We need JJ, but in saying that I don't see why next year we couldn't play Lynch and McGovern. But I'm hoping O'Brien plays along side JJ and Sauce.

You also realise that Lynch has 21 goals this season playing much much further away from goal.

I cant find the stats for Score Involvements but that would be even more one sided in Lynch's favour.

Look at the games played: 16...... then the goals..... scan up to see how few players on similar games have more goals. Then, of those that do have more goals, check the Goal Assist column. Jenkins is in very good company.

Now if we look at average goals per game, he is also in very good company...... but now scan down the hit out column. Only Tippett, who spend quite a bit of time in ruck is better.


Now if we look at his marks inside 50, he is also doing pretty well. Then scan those above him for MI and look at the contested mark numbers. He's doing reasonably well, very well actually.


For every "Joe the goose" you find, how about you look for long goals kicked from 50m or more or difficult goals from the pocket. He's got a few. A player who is played deep forward getting a few over the back goals is not a knock on that player. It is the team ramming home an advantage on game day.

He is a valuable player. And it will be hard work trying to find a forward who kicks more than 2 goals per game, gives off as many goals and has a stint in the ruck. And has been relatively injury free.

Nobody is saying he isn't valuable. I stated he's playing well, and should definitely retain his spot. But this does not mean he's as valuable as Lynch and not replaceable.

So a guy that kicks 50 goals from outside 50 is just as good as a guy who kicks 50 from the goal line? That's just pure stupidity. Tex gets very few Joe the goose goals...he kicks a lot of his from further out.

Lynch averages 2 more marks per game than JJ. Of course JJ takes more inside 50. He sits in there most of the game. He is a decent contested mark, but so he should be, that's what he is in the side for and he's massive! He also drops a lot of marks he should take.

JJ averages 4 (FOUR) hitouts per game. That is virtually irrelevant. David Mundy averages 2.5 or something for Fremantle. Have a look what happened when Sauce got a poke in the eye against Port. We almost lost the game due to the ease in which Port got centre breaks.

Watch the game from Saturday again. I know we won by 100 points, but have a look at Lynch early, and what the commentators say about him. Its not surprising that he is the only player in the league averaging 15 touches, 7 marks and 1.5 goals a game.

They aren't comparable, but Lynch is very underrated because he 'doesn't kick 2 goals a game'.

There are to many people on here that don't actually understand the importance of Lynch. I mean he leads the league in goal assists...I wonder how many of Jenkins' goals came directly from Lynch's good work?
I would be giving him the 3rd year on the contract, but I understand they want to stagger expiring contracts.

• I've done a quick analysis of our disposal efficiency (using my own assumptions since kick/handball efficiency stats aren't available to the public). According to my calcs, we are now over 70% DE for the first time since Rd 3. Yay!
• Breaking it down a bit, I've assumed we dispose at the same efficiency by foot as we do by hand. Based on that, simply, we go at just under 151 average effective kicks (ranked 8th) and 93 average effective handballs (ranked 17th). Obviously my assumption has a flaw, and I'd love to see kick/handball efficiency rates to know where the flaw is.

PLAYERS

• Tom Lynch leads the league in goal assists with 26, 4 ahead of his nearest rival (Mark LeCras). He also leads score assists by 4 with 38, Cyril is second with 34 (and 20 goal assists). The league leader in score involvements is Josh J Kennedy with 172, 47 more than Tom. Excluding their own scores, JJK has a total 58 score involvements (172-114). Tom has 86 (125-39).

Not sure if we want or need this, but seeing as I'm the self proclaimed Statman, I decided to do it anyway. I'll update our stats every week.

TEAM

• I've done a quick analysis of our disposal efficiency (using my own assumptions since kick/handball efficiency stats aren't available to the public). According to my calcs, we are now over 70% DE for the first time since Rd 3. Yay!
• Breaking it down a bit, I've assumed we dispose at the same efficiency by foot as we do by hand. Based on that, simply, we go at just under 151 average effective kicks (ranked 8th) and 93 average effective handballs (ranked 17th). Obviously my assumption has a flaw, and I'd love to see kick/handball efficiency rates to know where the flaw is.

• Breaking it down a bit, I've assumed we dispose at the same efficiency by foot as we do by hand. Based on that, simply, we go at just under 152 average effective kicks (ranked 7th, up from 151 ranked 8th last week) and 94 average effective handballs (ranked 17th still, but up from 93 last week). The flaw is due to not being able to access kicking efficiency or handball efficiency individually.

• Tom Lynch leads the league in goal assists with 28, 5 ahead of his nearest rival (Robbie Gray). He also leads score assists by 4 with 40, Cyril is second with 36 (and 21 goal assists). The league leader in score involvements is Josh J Kennedy with 176, 42 more than Tom. Excluding their own scores, JJK has a total 60 score involvements (176-116). Tom has 93 (134-41). Telford had 9 score assists on the weekend alone.
