That's the line ending that thread.
Start fresh from here!

Firstly Arnott was not on a rookie contract. He signed an extension then afterwards agreed to be demoted to a rookie. The club would have still had to pay the same coin.

Secondly even if the 4 retired players were only on an average of 250k each. That's 1 million freed up.
Actually that's not right. When he went back to the rookie list, its his wage minus the rookie list pay. When he got upgraded then the full money goes into the TPP.

Remember the difference between 95% and 100% of the cap is around 800k. If we signed a top dollar player, it just means a peripheral player or 2( those 10 odd players that remain out of contract each year) either gets the chop or stays on 1 year contracts for another year. or we could just stay at neat the min cap space.

But because we paid 95% of the cap, reportedly, we are able to pay 105% this year. Based on that 800k that means we have a war chest of 1.6 million at least.

From memory Axel was on good coin (around 400k signed a contract when we were paying 92.5% of the cap and we had to up that to 95%).

Just based on these 2 alone we have a war chest IMO of around 2 million for this season going begging

Yes we signed players, but again as I mentioned we have the ability to go over by $500k next year, plus the cap goes up $500k, that is $1mil there.

Then we have the retirements Newman $400k Foley $400k Petterd $350k & Knights $350k. That's another $1.5mil of cap space.

Then we have yet to sign: Grigg $400k Dea $200k Gordon $250k Lloyd $250k Lennon $150k. That is another $1.25mil.

That is close to $4mil in cap space. Remember the cap is over $10mil next year. Re-sign those we have to re-sign and there is still $2.5mil left over. Those players that did re-sign during the year, not all of them would have got big increases either. Maybe $50-100k a year while a couple others would have got a little more but not massive increases. So yes we could easily have that much space in the cap heading into next year. Once we sign everyone up and add to the list we won't but right now we would have at least $1.5mil in space to play with. Hence us holding off on further delistings/re-signings until after trade period is completed so we know what we have to play with.
Just to be fair I don't think the poster was referring to the rule of going over the TPP when under the previous years, just pure cap space, so you cant include that in this debate as it wasn't included, but the rest stands.

Yep I wasn't going into the over pay situation just the normal stuff. This is available to us, but unknown if we would do it. I was just saying if have to pay for other players to come across, other at the back end don't get contracts. This is why a few players every year have to wait till after the trade period to see if they stay.
