Johnson had a solid game. Was more impressed by his contest and marking around the ground than any goals he had.
Wilson was really good too, kicked 5 goals.
Very impressed by Oscar's first outing for a 19 year old. Has aggression, delightful tap work (to mids) follow up work, tackling, even took a few marks -- which was something Beggy struggled with in his first year at 19. But Oscar has been exposed to more senior football in SANFL, so that may have helped the transition. But reckon we have something here.

Macrae's first game back from back injury was great. Had no pre-season too, so even more impressive.
Harrison clearly on managed minutes, as he didn't play until 2nd quarter.. as they ease him back into it, after his hammy issues.

Ryan
Allan
richards.
All the kids looked good in their first game.
Kelly had a good game on the wing.
Bianco was quite good too, you can tell he had bulked up this pre-season, now hard to tackle.
Murley worked his way into the 2nd in the second half, and got a couple goals.

Looks like Dekka has his mojo back. Ryan and Richards looked like they could step straight into the AFL. Allan and Steene great prospects, but a bit to learn.

Great to see Macrae play so well, considering his interrupted pre-season. Hopefully he can continue that form for a few weeks and push for senior selection.
Excited by Allan, looks like a KP player playing in the midfield, lol. He looks a real talent, and one you feel could push his way into senior footy and adapt quite easily.
Steene in the ruck looked very promising. Good to see him follow up.at ground level and win a few clearances, for a big man.
With Ash Johnson amongst the goals, he will keep the pressure on the guys at AFL level, because Ash is to good for VFL level. Good to see Tommy Wilson, a guy who l think has huge upside, get amongst the goals too.
I think both Ash and Tommy, have a role to play at AFL level, and they'll be given their opportunities at some point this season. Unfortunately for them, we have a tough AFL side to break into, but very happy with our depth at VFL level.

I think this just proves that it was a training run for most of the game. Everyone seems to have played well. Macrae looks good as a midfielder and should be a good replacement if Tay or Tom go down. Allan looks like a likely player in the near future. Guys like Bianco and Wilson and Ruscoe are replacements if players go down. The positioning of Kelly on the wing to allow him to run free with no responsibilities seems a last ditch effort to give him the confidence that he can play. You have to wonder if that will be any use when he returns to a position that suits the AFL team. He's getting first year treatment and he's a guy who is 22 and be around for a while. Things might get clearer for some of these players when we play a team that arent a rabble. I'd like to see Johnson in more situations where he cant just pick and choose to make efforts.

COLLINGWOD vs COBURG

COLLINGWOOD 5.1 9.2 14.7 22.9 (141)
COBURG
2.4 5.10 6.11 6.13 (49)

COLLINGWOOD blasted Coburg with 13 goals to one in the second half to give its percentage a huge start in a 92-point hammering at Victoria Park.

The Magpies had to work hard against a gallant Lions outfit in the first half, leading by 16 points at the main break – a margin that could have been reversed had the visitors kicked straight (5.10 to 9.2). However, it was all one-way traffic after that.

Fin Macrae (34 disposals, nine clearances, six tackles), Campbell Lane (31, eight marks), Campbell Hustwaite (31, five marks), Trent Bianco (27, nine marks, five entries) and Lachie Tardrew (29) had a field day among 10 players to have 20 or more. Meanwhile, Tom Wilson (five goals), Ash Johnson (four) and Sam Glover (four) cashed in up forward.

He was very impressive - particularly coming off an interrupted preseason.
Absolutely. Has only been in full training for a couple weeks, coming off an injury that sidelined him since pre-christmas. Very nice start.

I’ve always been a fan of Finn and have been hoping for a breakout game like this. He’s always been solid, a good player but he took a step on Saturday he actually looks bigger, must have been spending time in the gym. I hope he’s been doing some work with his brother. Perhaps when the dogs crash and burn and sack Bevo we might be able to lure him to the pies, that’s McRae not Bevo.
