What do you do with Shane Watson?

What they do with old racehorses. Put him out to stud.

And what a stud he is too

Just had a look at Shwatto's bowling stats of late... 7 wickets at 55 in the last 18 months.

Doesn't make for pretty reading

If he was a racehorse in Italy. He'd be sold in a mortadella shop.

Ahhh it's finally happened, Watson's rubbish international career is finally over!

S. Watson
1st test: 49 runs, 0-47 (13, 3.6RR, 0M)

M. Marsh
2nd test: 39 runs, 3-31 (11, 2.8RR, 5M)

I genuinely hope that this puts a line through his international test career; a long overdue line.

I love how people were complaining that Watson doesn't bowl enough overs and then marsh bowls less. Double standards.

Guess who got more wickets on a flatter pitch....it wasn't Watson! Marsh didn't need to bowl much, his job was to break partnerships, he did...remind me how Watson did that in the last 12 months, he has barely got a wicket!

He also made less runs on a flatter pitch when it we were under no pressure.

So? We need our all rounder to be taking wickets- Watson has taken 7 wickets at 55 this year. Marsh is a better bat anyway only failed once.

Let's not remind him we only bowled 37 in the 2nd innings. * me how can ANYONE be arguing about Watson being out. He's been s**t for 2-3 years now.

Some people just have preferred players. There are those that like Watson, there are those that like Haddin, and there are those that like Rogers and Lyon.
It can be pretty hard to cast aside an old favourite for an up and coming player.

Me personally, I never thought of Watson as a test player and quite frankly he should never have had his 2nd chance. He made some runs 4 years ago, looked a decent cricketer, but was never consistent and he always played at his level, never above it and always below it. He started off as a specialist ODI player capable of scoring, but more importantly, as a control bowler that picked up regular wickets, had a tidy average and was very good in the last 10 overs. Injuries really denied of him being able to bowl a lot of overs and for a period of time, prevented him from bowling at all. But when you're comparing Watson who averages 1 wicket per test in the last year to Marsh, you're looking at a 34 year old injury riddled has-been, who's past their prime and physically incapable of stringing many tests together, and a 23 year old all-rounder who's a better bowler than batsman, but is what the team really needs. And can actually take more than 1 wicket per test.

Haddin has been blowing hot and cold for as long as I remember. Some series he's tonked runs for fun and others he's looked worse than McGrath 20-odd years ago. Healy is a stupid old codger, blowing steam out his ass, trying to pass Haddin off as the 2nd best wicket keeper that's ever played for Australia behind him in the last Ashes series. The ridiculous old stooge (he's only 50, but his memory is already shot and he's forgotten the last 18 years) was a great wicketkeeper for Australia, but was not better than Adam Gilchrist in any measurable area, statistic, eye test or anything. Adam Gilchrist is universally recognised as not only Australia's greatest wicketkeeper, but the best wicketkeeper in the history of cricket.

Pretty much guarantee Watson won't play another test unless Marsh gets injured. Really good game from Marsh, complimented our bowling attack and took some really big wickets. Bowling has really improved. I think he's got a lot of ability with the bat and is nowhere near his best. He hit's the ball as hard/times it as well as anyone going around in world cricket. His drives get the the fence in a ridiculously short amount of time. When Marsh comes to that stage in his career where he is at his best it'll be that much ahead of anything Watson has ever done it won't be funny. Watson is 34, past his best, has been nothing more than a good ordinary batsman who bowls well for an allrounder but recently both aspects of his game have been really poor and really poor for a long time. Marsh is exactly what the Australian cricket team has needed as is Nevill. Marsh at 23 has the potential and ability to be a great of the game, I guess we'll have to come back to this in another 10 years to see if I'm right.

Not really. We need our all-rounder to chip in when needed with either bat or ball. That's what they are there for. Not just chip is as a good slipsman.

No point in expecting a 34 year old to develop into what he's not already.

We bowled them out? There was less overs bowled. On proportion he bowled a lot more than Watson

Also looked a LOT more dangerous, Watson's party pies at 125-130kmph...well lets just say they won't be getting wickets!

Mitch Marsh is the superior bowler of that there is no question.

Lets cut to the chase, he is the superior player, period. Only injuries have stopped him playing 15 tests already.

Healy was a better keeper than Gilchrist.
