Warhammer Online

Heard quite a few good things about this upcoming game.

Anyone planning to get it? At the moment it's in Alpha stage, but some of the concepts interest me. If there is enough interest here maybe we could get a BigFooty guild going, exclusively PvP of course. WoW has burned me out with PvE, PvP is just so much more interesting. Being retired from that game, I'm setting my sights to Warhammer.

Anyone else interested in this MMO game?

To me it just looks like WoW with better PvP options. I am a retired WoW vet too... I now play Eve online - its a MMORPG space game. It takes a while to get into, but the PvP is awesome. Sometimes there is fleet battles of like 100 vs 100 ships or more... http://www.eve-online.com/

Im in Thawn when it comes out. Add me to MSN hi_rola82@hotmail.com

I was a games workshop junkie for awhile as a kid and loved their range of stategy games. So fair to say ive been hanging for this one. Any news on when it might be released?

Also ive played EVE online and it can become a bore unless you really enjoy space games. THe ongoing missions before you get good enough to PVP are tedious.

WAR is looking damn impressive! I'll certainly be geting it when its released.

I to have played EVE but like finrod said, it takes ages to get into and its just kills the game on that point! Sure you need to build up money to buy cool ship and weapons etc but its just plain boring doin so since you cant do much else until then.

So, its not worth the 20bucks a month. 5 bucks at most maybe!

Just looks like another WoW to me.

Originally I was going for WAR, but AoC has won me over with its unique combat system, and rich graphics. Plus all the little kids and whiny teenagers from WoW will be converting to WAR. ;)

As for EVE Online, best part about it was that you could still increase your skills even when you were off-line, as it is a time-based game. So if you were there from the beginning, you would be rather powerful now. Had I known of EVE earlier I would've played that instead of WoW.

Sure, veteran players of Eve online do have some advantage because they have more skills. But the skills system works on a system of diminishing returns. So for a certain skill, it might take 15 mins to train to level 1, 45 mins to level 2, 3 hours to level 3, 1 day to level 4, and 5 days to train from level 4 to level 5. That's just a rough example, but a pretty good indication of how things work. So if you are a new player, you can train a heap of skills to level 3 or 4 in a relatively short amount of time. Veteran players though usually have quite a few level 5 skills, because these take the longest to train. But each level of a skill usually gives the same bonus, so the veteran players really don't have a tremendous advantage. In fact, that is one of the great things about Eve - a relatively new player in a well-fitted spaceship can take down a veteran of a couple of years if they know what they are doing, regardless of skill levels. It usually comes down to 2 things - how you equip your ship, and how skilled you are at flying it. Sure, you will not be able to immediately fly a titan or a dreadnaught if you are a newbie, but you can still do pretty much everything from pvp, mission running, pirating, mining, trading, joining an alliance/corporation, etc. within a month or two of starting.

Oh, and I read somewhere that it would take a new player around 8-9 years of skill-training time to train every Eve skill to level 5... which is longer than Eve has been in existence. So it is not possible to get every skill - you have to specialise. The real advantage that veteran players have is that they can specialise in more different skill areas than newbies. This is not such an advantage as it sounds because there are so many things you can do in Eve that it would take up a lot of playing time if you tried to utilize every skill a veteran possesses all the time. Since the Revelations I patch new players also start with 800,000 skill points, which is a lot more than what they used to get.

You can get the Collectors Edition pre-order now at most game retailers. Got mine at Games Mania in Ringwood for 20 bucks. When the open beta starts you get instant access, plus some extra content and items etc.

Me and Highroller are joining this guild on the Destruction side of things, on the Oceania server. Anyone else interested in being a bad guy and killing s**t is welcome to apply in the applications thread.

We're definitely a PvP focused guild, hoping to basically be the biggest guild on the server and sack cities, kill kings etc.

The way the classes are balanced in this game seems really good so far. I like the way you'll be PvPing the whole way up to level 40 as well.

One cool feature is the way your guild can sack 'Keeps' which are basically just castles that different guilds fight over and use as a home base. There are siege weapons involved and all kinds of cool s**t, but once you take over a keep it gets decorated in all your guild colours and emblem etc. And you have NPC guards that will wear your guild colours too.

Expecting big things.

Hmmmm, I only just got to level 70 on WOW and have found out I am really no where. I was a late starter, wonder whether I should cut and run. Must admit having kids on there does not worry me much although I am sick of Chuck Norris.

First book I ever read was Conan the Warrior and I have a tonne of comics so maybe I should look at that. What is the major diff between the two Thrawn? I am thinking more games and less footy after yesterday! :)

Anyone who signed up for the closed beta should check their emails. :)

Open Beta starts in a week anyway, so if you're keen, go pick up the collectors edition pre-order (about $20) from a retailer, and you'll get an open beta code. You also get a couple of extra in-game items, a warhammer model and an early start to the official release.

Oh, and if anyone wants to join a destruction (bad guys) guild on the Oceanic server, I'll be playing with these guys at least at first:

I've paid for the special edition, but maily for the extra's that come with it.

will def play it, but might igve it a month or two after it goes live before I start to play, just so that some of the issues that plauge every MMO launch will be fixed.

the massive download for beta/starting early dont really appeal to me that much.

Releases on October 23rd

Very popular pre seller and i think the limited editions are all gone (well my company are not taking any more pre orders)

Might be able to find one elsewhere, but you are still able to get Beta access with a standard edition pre order

To me, its just WOW again. But the Games Workshop/ Warhammer fan base will help sell it

Nah release date is September 18th.

It isn't just WoW again. Much bigger focus on RvR. More similar to DAOC.

The fantasy setting is similar to WoW though, but that's because WoW is a blatant Games Workshop ripoff.

yeah, other than the similar fantasy setting MMO setting there's not much similar.

The whole idea of WoW is a static world with essentially pointless PvP - well except for wanking your E-peen....

the fact that you can sack the opposition captial, and certain NPC's, Quest-givers and vendors won't be there if you're getting hammered! Sure it'll reset once your city is conquered, but I can't see that happening often.

The interation of the classes seems great and Tanks even having a role to play at all outside of PvE is fantastic!

there are two things mythic need to do for a complete success in my eyes; Make sure all the game-play is tight, and Capture the "feel" for the warhammer world. It's not a happy place, it's dark - I know there'll be a limit to how far they'll go becasue of ratings, but it is still do-able. Also they need to maintain the humour of the world - which by the reports I've read about the green-skins it sounds like they have. :thumbsu:

Heard good things about this game, and I've bought a pre order. I played a hunter, warrior and priest to 70 in WOW, but as you guys said - the game gets way too repetitive, and as hard as they've tried, PVP is boring. It's funny, new players spend the whole game wishing they were level 60/70, then by the time they get there, they're kind of like 'Oh, is that it?'

I'm definitely up for a bigfooty guild if it happens, but I'm not throwing away my life for a game like I did with WoW. :p

Well, I can guarantee you, if you don't like PvP you won't like this game. People that don't PvP are going to lag behind the rest of us too, because there's certain gear and skills you can only get by PvP'ing.

If it ends up being the same repetitive rep farming as WoW, I wont play all that much. I'm sure though that with better gear etc, and Wow's example to follow, WH will have improved on this area a fair bit.

The way it implements PvP is completely different. There are secarios, which are basically BattleGrounds that actually work, then there's RvR areas, which are usualyl a constant back and forth to determine control of the area. then there are keeps, which are basically massive castles your guild can take over as a 'home base' and decorate it with your guild banner etc. etc. and create defensive structures like catapults and vats of oil etc. These are really hard to capture if a decent guild has taken over. Obviously there's random PvP involvement too.

Then there's the Tier 4/5 content, which I haven't seen, but basically one side has to take over the others end game content area, then attack their capital city and kill their leader in a 20 person instanced fight (you'll need more than 20 people to get there of course, probably closer to 200-300, but then you get broken into groups of 20 - of your choosing and take it in turns to fight the leader - which you can only attempt once each time you sack the city). The Capital cities in WAR are rumoured to be roughly the size of every capital city in WoW put together. Once you sack the city it doesn't just 'reset' straight away either, the opposition has to take the city back.

The whole thing is geared around teamwork and fighting a war. You even have persistent public quests every now and then, where Order is trying to achieve one obejctive and Destruction another - this differs from scenarios though, because anyone can literally be walking past and just join in and then leave whenever they want as well.

And honestly, gear doesn't make as much difference in this game as it does in WoW anyway. I was level 11 as Chosen, doing a public quest with a bunch of level 13's, and consistently came first in the loot tables because I knew how to play as a tank better than they did, even though they were two levels higher and had much better gear than me.

Looking forward to playing in the open beta over the next 2 days. Going to try as many classes as I can hopefully.
