Seems like this game was more like a three-off for Simmo. How did you rate his final?

I know. But at the time i didn't expect that to be the case.

Very poor finish to the season for Simmo. I really hope it had more to do with his injury then him actually.

Also, our players voted him in the best three players at the club (with Petrie and Boomer) up until the time of the nominations.

And we on Bigfooty had in as the 3rd best player at the club for most of the year.

Also led the club in total clearances despite playing 2 games less than the next best player.

But yeah, he had a bad few games coming back from injury. De-list him.

Simmo might have been very average in the past 3 games but for most of the season his been easily in our top few.

I still think he shouldn't have played the last two H&A games.

i think there was more than simmo running around on there last tanks of gas in the h & a season watching the lack lustre performance of us against port, and the tanks were running dry about the half way against the cats.

but simmo apart from his injury is great at marshalling the troops on the field. not everyone is a carey, who wins games off there own boot

Simmo struggled again. Especially in the second half, where he couldn't get close to Kirk who ended up killing us. Not a great way to finish the season for our captain.

It was a shit finish all around for the whole club.

As a player, he's been excellent. We all know about his disposal limitations, but he contributes consistently and does his job. Personally, I'd move him to defence where his reading of the play and courage will offset the loss in pace.

We simply can't afford to play Simmo, Harro, Rawlings and Power in the same midfield going forward.

He is 33 before the start of the year.....You can't hide slow 33yo's in defence these days as in what clubs did with Arch at the end of last year....
Example....
Mooney,Stokes,Varcoe,Lonergan,Ottens,Stevie Johnson,Chapman....Just wondering who you could even remotely play him on....They would take him back to goal square and it would be a bloodbath....

Next year is 2009 no 1989.......

Have you been reading my mind Dingster? Simmo should be used purely as a role-player & for specific match-ups. There may even be games where there isn't a spot for him. BUT if he remains captain, he remains untouchable.

Fair assessment there mate. Personally, for Simmo's last 3 games this year, I would give 0's. Because to be honest, he did nothing half-decent & cost us numerous goals.

I gave him 4 votes for the last 3 games because i thought he still tried. Things just weren't working for him. Whether it was injury related or something else, i have no idea.

Tell you the truth, i wouldn't be shocked if he handed over the captaincy to Petrie before next season. It might not be a bad idea. But then again Laidley might want Simmo to see out his career as captain.

Overall i thought Simmo served us well this season.

There can be no arguement the game has passed him by & his days as captain should certainly be over. His inability to have an impact on a game is frightening. I have no doubt he tries (as I would if I played for NMFC) BUT that alone does not give you the right to play AFL, let alone captain an AFL team.
If the coaching staff are serious re becoming a premiership contender, Simmo really can only be used as a `role-player' & may miss certain games if the right match-up doesn't exist.

Your right, with the fact that we can't be relying on simmo anymore if we are to be a true premiership threat.

Simmo should be a burst player. The funny thing is, i reckon we played him as a burst player a few times this season & i reckon it worked well.

I guess our problem is a lack of midfield options that can do the job as well as simmo. Until that is rectified there really isn't much we can do.

Harris, we can't afford to lose & we need Swallow playing well.

My question to you is "Can we have Harris, Swallow, Simpson, Rawlings & Power in our midfield?"

My answer is a flat out - NO. All lack pace, particularly over the first 10m, & all have deficiencies in their disposal. The time has come to re-jig the midfield. Riggio, Urquhart & players of that ilk need game-time. I'm sick of our midfielders running 3/4 pace kicking 45m floaters.
