Essendon v melbourne

Back to the game for just a second, I'm very happy to see Fletch, Welsh and Winderlick back. I'll be interested to see if Lloyd and Lucas show signs that they are getting back to form, or is their time seemingly coming to an end? But mainly I want to see how our back 6 go where I hope we can start some runs through the middle and into the F50. I'm a big rap for Courtenay Dempsey.

All the best Melbourne. Like I said, I just stated my opinion of where I think your club is at right now.

Funny how the two WA sides look like they're inevitably sliding down the ladder, yet Paul Roos says that the same thing must be doctored/prevented in NSW.

i hope this does turn into a good game of footy. they have had some great clashes over the years. the frist drawn gf ever is one

Neitz's last game was good too, as was the QF in 2005.

In 2000 we lost to you guys in round 10 or 11, by just 7 or 8 points (came closer than just about anyone that year, except the bulldogs - and WE didn't have to play zone!), then we proceeded to win about 15 straight to get to the grand final where.... I have gone blank for some reason.... wierd. I figure we broke our premiership drought that year, right?

i think only the bombers supporters want to remember that game. neil daniher's last game for the dee's as coach was a great game as well and that was final was 2004. the bombers didnt play finals in 2005

Yeah Daniher's last was the one I was referring to when I said Neitz. I always thought that was Neita's last because it was basically the last time he did anything for us.

SUMMARY
The Bombers started the season positively and after nine rounds, were in the black and sitting in fourth spot on the AFL ladder. But Essendon has now lost more than it’s won after tough encounters (a 64-point loss against Geelong and a 16-point defeat to Adelaide) in the past two rounds.
The evenness of the competition has seen the Dons slip to 11th on the ladder entering round 12.
Despite just one win this season, Melbourne has been competitive in most matches, aside from two shockers against Collingwood in rounds two and 11 and Port Adelaide in round three.

It's been seven rounds since its win over Richmond and coach Dean Bailey will be eager to see his charges notch up win number two against his former team – particularly after a disappointing Queen's Birthday showing.

PLAYER TO WATCH
Scott Lucas (Essendon)

The 2000 premiership player and club great has endured a tough season, but hit back strongly in round 11 – his first match since round six – with four goals against Adelaide. Lucas, who spent time with the Bendigo Bombers and was an emergency for rounds nine and 10, will be determined to continue the form he showed against Adelaide in his most recent outing.
Colin Sylvia (Melbourne)
No question, Melbourne's form player of the past three rounds has been the talent-laden forward. Sylvia had somewhat of a breakout game against Hawthorn in round nine with a career-best 37 disposals and four goals. He followed up with an impressive effort against the Saints on the Gold Coast and was again Melbourne's best against the Pies with 32 touches and three goals. It will be fascinating to watch in the second half of '09.
QUESTION MARKS
The Bombers have spent five rounds in the top eight this season, including three in a row from rounds seven to nine. The Dons are fighting for a place in the eight and have not dropped three in succession this year. Can Essendon avoid that against Melbourne?
It will be exactly two months this Friday since Melbourne defeated the Tigers. The Demons went close to knocking off the Dons last year. Can the Dees record their second win of the season and start the final 11 rounds off positively after a poor effort last round?
WHO WILL WIN AND WHY
Melbourne feature in its only Friday night clash for the season and will be hell-bent on making up for a poor big game showing just before its break. Still, the developing Dees also take on Essendon at Docklands – a ground Melbourne has not played at this year and not won at since round 19, 2007. The Demons have been in most games this season and it would not surprise if they overcame the Dons, but form across the season points towards Essendon this time.
PREDICTION
Essendon by 23 points
The views in this article are those of the author and not necessarily those of the clubs or the AFL.

I would be a whole lot more nervous if Sheeds was still in charge. But I think the Dons will get this one. They looked tired against the crows, and the week off will see them regain their fitness base (which is usually quite good) and run away in the last quarter. Hopefully this is something like the Adelaide game and have a strong feeling both coaches will want it that way. Essendon by 21. Prismall to rack some pill, Sylvia to be very dangerous if he stays up forward.

I've gone for a low scoring encounter... Melbourne 25.5 into Less than 200.5 points for the match. $3.75!

Umpires yet again ruining a good contest with some absolute garbage descions to give the bombers first 3 goals of the match ...Dees yet to get a free kick .

It's always the Umpire's with us isnt it:rolleyes:

GO blame the umpires then, not us Stop complaining on Bay 13 if it's so bad and try and change it. God bloodly wingers
