Yeah, he came off the bench against Hull and was effective because the game was over and Hull gave him space to operate.

Played 20 minutes against Fiorentina and was gash. Was gash off the bench against Chelsea too.

Riera and Babel are the same, Riera will always get chosen to start ahead of Babel unless Riera is injured (or he's being rested for an important upcoming match, which could be the case this weekend coming).

He was very lively against both Hull and Fiorentina, and had to go up against Ash Cole (in superb form btw this season) and Cole had his number, no disgrace there

Riera was on the other flank at the start of the game against Ivanovic and showed NOTHING. He's terrible. Bus is dead right.

At least Babel actually has some enthusiasm and has a red hot go every time he is on the field, always looks to beat a man and adds much needed pace to our attacks.

Babel over Riera any day of the week.

It's gettin' better! Kuyt injured too...

Rafa will be more angered by the injury to Dirk though. The Spaniard was already unhappy that he and Ryan Babel had to fly to Sydney for this match, seen as money making deal by the Dutch FA (England and other nations also do this though), but would be angrier still as Dirk had missed training all week with an ankle problem. Despite this Bert van Marwijk started him and this made the injury worse, with him last only 45 minutes. Now faced with a long haul flight back to Merseyside this will only increase the pressure on the Dutchman's ankle and potentially make it worse.

The bolded part is what really shits me about this.

I tell ya, Jay Spearing is a monty to start this week. :)

Btw TIG, you must seriously be in wind-up mode if you think Riera deserves to start ahead of Babel, on current form. In any case, we may have no choice but to play both on Saturday.

If Gerrard and Kuyt don't play... this is a massive chance for Babel and Riera to impress

Hmmm...

To be honest, after someone obviously gave Ryan a rocket for being a lazy shithouse, he's improved his work-rate.

He seems a lot keener to take players on now as well. We'll see I guess, as we've had a few false dawns with Babel, but the signs are he's finally "getting it".

His recent performances, certainly justify him playing ahead of Riera, who needs exactly the same rocket as Babel got.

Neither deserve to start, but I'd be picking Riera ahead of Babel every single day of the week and twice on Sunday's (as a left winger of course).

Babel has improved a lot from last season, he was absolutely shithouse last year. So far this year he is moving a lot quicker and at least tries to beat his opponent.

A lot of stories sprouting up proclaiming that GG is selling up with Tom Hicks approval to the Saudi guy.

These stories always come up so im going to have to see it happen to believe it.

It'd be a step up from Hicks and Gillette.

It will be interesting to see whether Prince Faisal will be any improvement, given hes stated a number of times hes not just going to pump money into the club like the fans want, and doesn't want more than a 50% share. Could be sitting in the same quagmire.

Yeah but what's funny is that he sits on the pine at Tottenham too. His England career is going nowhere. The donkey is loved by Capello and C.Cole, the sex machine that he is will no doubt be in the WC plans.

It also helps Cole that he's superior to Crouch.

Cole > Crouch > Voronin > Heskey

they have been saying he would rather buy the club outright, and that he would pump money into the club but not just to wipe out the debt.

Spain insist they will take no risks with the fitness of Fernando Torres after he picked up a knock in their World Cup qualifier against Armenia.
The striker has been undergoing physio at the team hotel on a muscle injury which forced his second-half substitution on Saturday.

Vicente Del Bosque's men face Bosnia on Wednesday and Torres hasn't been ruled out despite Spain having already qualified from Group 5.

The national coach has had friendly and positive talks with Rafa Benitez over the last 48 hours - and Liverpool's medical team are in constant contact with their Spanish counterparts.

"Torres is in very good hands here," said Del Bosque. "Sunday he stayed at the hotel and did not train because we went to a pitch in which there was no stretcher.

"He stayed at the hotel with the physios.

"Rafa Benitez has called me and I reassured him. We will care very much for Torres, like the rest.

"I told him that we will treat Torres as if he was at Liverpool.

"If the boy is well and wants to play, he will play against Bosnia. And if he has any problem, he will not play. It's that simple."

Meanwhile, Steven Gerrard has been deemed fit enough to remain with England ahead of their clash with Belarus after he was substituted against Ukraine with a suspected groin injury.

Slur Alex had Rooneh pull out of the England squad, just do it Nando and Stevie, both your sides are qualified, this week coming up for Liverpool is far more important that some pointless qualifiers...

Get back to Melwood and recover there.
