Here is version 2 of my phantom draft.

Some thoughts:

  • I found it frustrating during the first round that I couldn't change my picks away from what seems to be the "standard" think - Scully then Trengove then Martin then Morabito etc. Sorry if the first round is a bit repetitive, hopefully you enjoy who I pick for your club in the later rounds.
  • I don't have many delisted players being picked up, unless it's official, I won't put it in.
  • After about the fourth round, I'm really just chucking names out there rather than selecting according to need.

So here it is, enjoy:

Priority selection
1. Melbourne - Tom Scully - 182cm 72kg
Melbourne aren't usually ones to throw surprises up with early picks, and there should be no dramas about who they pick first. Scully to the demons is set in stone.

First round
2. Melbourne - Jack Trengove - 185cm 82kg
Like Scully, this pick is as good as definite. An outstanding finish to the year with SANFL club Sturt, along with an impressive championships, has put Trengove into contention for this pick. There's a lot to like about the demons young midfield right now.
3. Richmond - Dustin Martin - 187cm 86kg
The tigers have come out and said they'll take either Trengove or Martin, so once again, there's really no other option here. Couragous, good compsure and fantastic skills on both sides of the body; he has the makings of a gun midfielder. Will perhaps consider Morabito and Butcher but they've made it clear that Martin is their man with this pick
4. Fremantle - Anthony Morabito - 192cm 93kg
There's been speculation about Rohan and possibly Cunnington going at this pick, but I just can't see Fremantle overlooking Morabito here. The dynamic tall midfielder also won the MVP for WA during their successful Under-18 Championships.
5. North Melbourne - Ben Cunnington - 186cm 84kg
I'd love to go controversial here, and the top 5 never turns out like the bigfooty groupthink, but I have to go with Cunnington here. He is the type of player the roos fans and coaching staff alike will love. Rohan would go pretty close here.
6. Sydney Swans - Gary Rohan - 186cm 79kg
Sydney would be more than happy with Rohan here, super quick and also won the kicking test at draft camp. Butcher would be on their radar here as well.
7. West Coast - Lewis Jetta - 178cm 82kg
West Coast outlined a need for small crumbing players and with this pick they begin to fulfill that need. Many will argue that he's not the best available here, but he definitely won't be available come pick 22. Would also consider Lucas and Butcher.
8. Port Adelaide - John Butcher - 197cm 83kg
Rated number 1 at the start of the year, Butcher will drop no further. Butcher is the best KPP in the draft and is a relatively safe KPP pick.
9. Port Adelaide - Daniel Talia - 195cm 80kg
The best KPD in the draft. Port have filled two key positions with these two picks.
10. Essendon - Kane Lucas - 188cm 79kg
Best available midfielder for Essendon here, who would happy getting Lucas here after he was rated around the top 3 at the start of the year. Melksham would be the other one to look out for here.
11. Melbourne - Aaron Black 193cm 80kg
After going with 2 gun mids with their first two picks, Melbourne go with the best available tall here. Possibly Carlisle or Panos at this pick.
12. Carlton - Matthew Panos - 193cm 85kg
Many phantom drafts have him slipping into the second round but I think Panos will go to the blues. I"m not sure whther they will go best available or tall here, but I guess Panos could fit both criteria. If they go tall (which I think they will) the Under 18 champs All Australian Full Forward will be on top of their list.
13. Adelaide - Callum Bartlett - 179cm 75kg
Callum Bartlett could go anywhere, perhaps as high as pick 7, or perhaps into the third round. Could potentially be a massive steal, was rated extremely highly before injuring his knee. Melksham and Stevens are some others to look out for here.
14. Sydney Swans - Jake Melksham - 182 cm 70kg
I think the Swans KPP stocks are fairly settled so they'll look to the best avaiable midfielder, which at this point is Melksham.
15. Western Bulldogs - Brad Sheppard - 187cm 78kg
With the addition of Hall and other high draft picks such as Cordy, Grant and Williams, the doggies KPP positions seem to be full so they will go for the best available in Sheppard.
16. Port Adelaide - Koby Stevens - 186cm 78kg
After going tall with their first two picks they grag a talented inside midfielder in Stevens. May also look at Bastinic or Sheppard if he slides.
17. Geelong - Jake Carlisle - 196cm 83kg
The cats midfield is about as good as it gets, so they'll have no hesitation picking going tall here. Vardy would be another to watch for.

Second round
18. Melbourne - Nathan Vardy
Melbourne fill their only other need, a ruckman, with Vardy, the best in the draft. Bastinic could just as easily go at this pick.
19. Richmond - Ben Griffiths
Injury-prone KPF, a risky selection but if it works, the tigers will have a great player on their hands. I feel the tigers could take one of many KPP's here, perhaps Panos r Carlisle.
20. Fremantle - Ryan Bastanic
Best Available midfielder here, a great young midfield being built by the dockers. Would have gone for a KPP but the quality left at this pick is pretty similar to that with their next pick, whilst the midfield depth is considerably larger. This pick could also just as easily be Duncan, Gysberts, Taylor or Panos
21. North Melbourne - Jordan Gysberts
North too are building a formidable young midfield, and Gysberts will be a classy addition. May look at Tapscott here as well.
22. West Coast - Luke Tapscott
Has slid out of contention in recent weeks and should slide no further than the eagles, who will pick the long kicking midfielder.
23. West Coast - Travis Colyer
Despite grabbing Jetta in the first round, West Coast will get the lightning quick small forward in Colyer. The eagles have filled their small forward need with theses two picks. Fyfe would be another to look out for,
24. Essendon - Josh Thomas
The bombers need inside midfielders, and Thomas is the best available with this pick.
25. North Melbourne – James Craig
I have north down as taking Craig with this pick not as a ruckman, but as a potential Key Position Player. I just feel that they are weak in that area, with injuries to Tarrant and the loss of Gibson.
26. Essendon - Luke Ball
Is almost certain to go to the bombers with this pick I hear.
27. Brisbane Lions – Allen Christenson
The lions enter the draft at this pick and Christenson is probably the best available midfielder at this point. Moore and McMillan Pittard could also go here.
28. Geelong - Sam Reid
Another KPP for the cats, this time a defender. Could form a great young defensive unit with Taylor.
29. Adelaide - Jasper McMillan-Pittard
After what I've read on the crows board, they will be stoked that JMP has lasted to this pick. I don't rate him as highly as some but I don't think the crows will be able to resist here.
30. Collingwood - Andrew Moore
The pies first pick for the draft could be classed as a slider, as many rate him in the first round. Best available player here, really.
31. Western Bulldogs - Troy Taylor
Livewire medium forward who, as many others have said, could be anything.
32. St Kilda - Nat Fyfe
The saints first pick is Fyfe, a dynamic medium forward with great hands from WA. After such a stellar season, a young small forward to ease the pressure from Milne and Schneider is probably the greatest need.
33. Essendon - Mitch Duncan
Another slider, not that I don't rate him, I just can't see who would take him. This pick could really be anyone.

Third round
34. Melbourne - Jack Fitzpatrick
The demons have essentially covered all needs so they pick a project KPP/Ruckman with their fifth pick. It's best available from here on in for the demons.
35. Richmond - Alex Carey
The tigers third pick is a tough inside ball winner, best available as well.
36. Fremantle - Kyle Hartigan
They can procrastinate no longer, the dockers must start fixing their young KPP woes now. Hartigan is one of the best KPD's in the draft .
37. North Melbourne - Nicholas Winmar
After 3 solid picks, the roos go after someone with a bit of X-Factor.
38. Sydney Swans - Mark Hutchings
Tough ball-winner - the type of player that Sydney love.
39. Hawthorn - Max Gawn
Hawthorn enter the draft by selecting a ruckman in Gawn. This fills an immediate need for them
40. Geelong - Jason Tutt
Tutt has a good all round game, and should develop nicely into the half back role for the cats.
41. North Melbourne - Mitch Taylor
A tall defender from the NT, the roos get a bit more stability and depth in their defence.
42. Geelong - Jesse Crichton
After going with two talls, Geelong pick a skinny line breaking midfielder, who was rated much higher at the start of the year. Will be able to develop his body whilst the current midfield reigns supreme, and hopefully find his way into the team when some players start to retire.
43. Carlton - Jo Dare
The blues were found out a bit with their KPD depth this year, so there's no harm in taking this talented youngster with their third round pick.
44. Richmond – Josh Donaldson
A lanky player who could ventually end up playing a back up ruck role.
45. Adelaide - Derrick Wanganeen
Shaping up as a dream draft for the crows, Wanganeen is a very light player with a lot of development left in him but could shape up as a very nice pick this late in the draft.
46. Hawthorn - Myles Sewell
Joins his brother at the Hawks, Sewell is a top aged inside midfielder who could line up in round 1.
47. Brisbane Lions - Andrew Hooper
Hooper won the Larke medal this year at the Unde 18 champs, the same award won by a certain David Swallow. Back pocket type playes genrally tend to slip but the lions will pick him up here.
48. Fremantle - Joel Houghton
This time a key forward for the dockers. Houghton has shot up the rankings as of late, and could even find his name called at 36.
49. Fremantle - Ayden Kennedy
Another key forward for the dockers, this time the athletic Kennedy. More a versatile tall than a player who can hold a key position, Kennedy could find himself being played off a flank.

Fourth round
50. Melbourne - Dylan Grimes
Best available again here for the demons, it's been a bit or a bland draft really in the sense that I haven't give you too many picks out of the ordinary.
51. Richmond – Daniel Menzel
The tigers third last pick in the draft is Menzel, who could fill a position on the half black flank.
52. Fremantle - Chris Luff
The dockers last pick in the draft is Luff, a key defender from Peel. More of a "football smarts" player than an athletic one, Luff could form a nice defensive duo with Hartigan.
53. North Melbourne – Cameron Kickett
Probably the best available here for the roos.
54. Sydney Swans – Charlie McAdam
Another half back flankery type for the swans.
55. Sydney Swans - Dylan McNeil
The swans round out their draft with the highly rated NSW boy, who could play a role across half forward/wing.
56. Geelong – David Astbury
Best available here for the cats, a promising key forward in Astbury.
57. Hawthorn – Joseph Groenwegan
Another potential ruckman for the hawks.
58. Hawthorn – Ryan Harwood
Too good for the hwaks to resist here, the highly rated inside midfielder will slide no further.
59. Carlton – Matt MacGuire
MacGuire will go here? I realise that I haven't picked any smalls for the blues, so the best young midfield in the league will have to go a year without any new talent. I feel that Carlton supporters won't like this draft.
60. St Kilda – Robbie Hicks
Another small forward that eases that pressure just a little bit more.
61. Adelaide – Angus Kurtze
All picks at this stage are basically a gamble, so the crows take a project ruckman in Kurtze.
62. Collingwood – Dylan Jones
A versatile tall who really, like anyone at this stage, is just really a punt.
63. Western Bulldogs – Josh Cowan
Probably the best available at this pick, the dogs take this line-breaking midfielder
64. St Kilda – Levi Casboult
Athletic player who could play ruck or as a KPP. Doesn't really fill a need for the saints, will probably end up just as a depth player.
65. Geelong - Pass

Fifth Round
66. Melbourne - Pass
67. Richmond - Sam Shaw
A bit more KPD depth for the tigers.
68. Fremantle - Pass
69. Hawthorn - Byron Sumner
Can never have enough midfielders with good skills.
70. Hawthorn - Pass
71. Richmond - Serhat Temel
The tigers round out their draft with another "could be anything" type, but really, at this pick that's all you're going to get.
72. Carlton - Pass
73. Brisbane Lions - Gerrick Weedon
Skilful player who could slot into the lions forward line.
74. Adelaide - Pass
75. Collingwood - Marcus Davies
A solid type who could fit nicely into the pies line up
76. Western Bulldogs - Braydon Norris
Midfielder with great endurance, will only be depth for the bulldogs however.
77. St Kilda - Dylan Robertson
A skillful half back flanker, probably best available as well at this pick.

Sixth Round
78. Richmond - Pass
79. Fremantle - Pass
80. North Melbourne - Pass
81. Sydney - Majak Daw
Someone had to pick him, so Sydney pick this versatile tall.
82. Port Adelaide - Pass
83. Carlton - Pass
84. Brisbane Lions - Tom Hill
Completely overlooked in last years draft, the lions extend a lifeline to Hill, who could develop nicely into a KPP or a ruckman.
85. Collingwood - Kallen Geary
The pies take a small midfielder with their last pick in the draft.
86. Western Bulldogs - Pass
87. St Kilda - Pass
88. Port Adelaide - Pass
89. Richmond - Pass
90. Sydney - Pass
91. Brisbane Lions - Sean Tighe
The last pick in my draft is Tight, who will sure up the lions defensive options.

I've forgotten someone on that summary by the way, the numbers don't add up, I just can't think who.

Not that its much drama, but Bartlett's from Geelong, not South Australia (you said Adelaide would take the local lad).

Tapscott at 22 = jizz for me.

Good on you.

God I hope the draft turns out like this! Bartlett, JMP, Wanganeen, would like us to take Sumner at 61 tho and go for a project ruck in the RD, but hey, if the first couple of rounds take this course I won't care what happens toward the back end!

Can you send Matty Rendell (Crows recruiter) a copy of this? Crows supporters will be frothing at the mouth if this comes about (agreed with Danger To Walker...give us Sumner at that last pick, and project RD a new ruck). Gives us exactly what we need...magic, x factor, speed, more line breaking ability.

Nice draft!

74. Adelaide - Pass
You've forgotten that rookie elevations now count as draft selections, with the result that #74 will be Brodie Martin (not a "Pass").

You might want to check the rookie elevations for the other 15 clubs as well.

PS. More than happy with the players you've predicted for us with the other 4 draft selections.

Much obliged.

If I were to critique ours:

Richmond

3. Richmond - Dustin Martin
19. Richmond - Ben Griffiths
35. Richmond - Alex Carey
44. Richmond - Josh Donaldson
51. Richmond - Daniel Menzel
67. Richmond - Sam Shaw
71. Richmond - Serhat Temel
78. Richmond – Pass
89. Richmond - Pass

I would, from the players you noted were still available then, replace Donaldson with Houghton, Menzel with Harwood and Shaw with Sumner (if McNeill not still about)

Giving us:

Dustin Martin
Ben Griffiths (though would go Stevens if available)
Alex Carey
Joel Houghton
Ryan Harwood
Byron Sumner
Serhat Tehmel
+1 PSD

and giving me great delight.

Cheers and thanks:thumbsu:

Rookie elevations for us: Nahas and Andrew Browne

Good draft for Adelaide, wouldn't mind us sneaking a peak at Fitzpartick and gambling on him being a nice ruck....but I can't see him lasting to our third given his athleticism and JMP is better for us than him at our 2nd.

Maybe Gawn in the 3rd if he lasts and Wanga's in the fourth

Regardless, Good effort.

The rookie elevations are as follows:
Adelaide: Brodie Martin
Brisbane: Pearce Hanley
Carlton: Sam Jacobs, Aaron Joseph
Footscray: Liam Picken, James Mulligan
Fremantle: Greg Broughton
Geelong: Jeremy Laidler
Hawthorn: Matthew Suckling
North Melbourne: Cruize Garlett
Port Adelaide: Daniel Stewart, Wade Thompson
Richmond: Andrew Browne, Robin Nahas
St Kilda: Zac Dawson, Luke Miles
Sydney: Kristin Thornton

With the recent changes, rookie elevations now take place via the draft. Clubs use their last selection(s) in the draft to acquire these players. If they wish to use a selection in the PSD, they pass with an earlier selection.

For example - Adelaide have selections 13, 29, 45, 61, 74. 74 is used for Martin's elevation. If the Crows wanted a selection in the PSD (which they don't) they would have to pass on selection #61.

Agree on Houghton, but I'd be happy with Menzel. We need that half-back playmaker. Don't want Tehmel though, especially if we get Griffiths and Houghton. I'd rather use our last two picks on Wheedon/Deon Gordon and Sean Tighe.

Summary

Carlton

12. Carlton - Matthew Panos
43. Carlton - Jo Dare
59. Carlton – Matt MacGuire
72. Carlton - Pass
83. Carlton - Pass

Absolutely horrible selections here. Not much thought has gone into Carltons selections.

Panos is not a 1st round pick. To much risk. Carlton is targetting Talia/ Black, if they are gone they will go best available. Bradley Shephard might be that player as they are desperate for a skilful running half back.

If Carlton manage to secure Talia or Black they will look at Byron Sumner with pick 43. Sumner is that running half back with a beautful kick. He has been interviewed by Carlton already.

Pick 59 will not be used on Macguire. In fact if Carlton pick up Talia, I doubt they will look at Mcguire in the PSD. Carlton has a s****d of key defenders. Jamison, Waite, Thornton, Bower, Austin and possibly Mcguire in the PSD.

I would love the take a punt on Temal at 59.

Talia, Sumner, Temal would be a good result for carlton

From a Collingwood perspective would be stoked with Moore!
Jones, probably not, not really after another ruckman. Would probably look for a key position backman instead.
Davies, Geary... sure.

Other comments:
Crichton I rate to go atleast in the 30s, if the not 20s, but with a player of his build his rating could be very open and different recruiters might look at him differently, so you may be right.
Panos, would love to see him go first round, rate him over Black/ Carlisle, just I'm not so sure that recruiters see the same.
I would be surprised to see Mitch Taylor go as early as you have him.

Otherwise pretty accurate draft overall, and a good effort.
