Just trying to draw all of the negative carp about Murph away from the Pre-season Training Thread.

Go nuts, naysayers.

Thank god, I've actually held off bagging him out all off-season with the optimistic reports.

Should have been given the boot for another pick in the ND.

Go nuts, naysayers.

It's crap.
Don't be afraid to say it.
However, it's not crap if it's true.
In saying that, I did mention in my training wrap that he looked good and that he said that he was fully aware of his situation.
No-one here wishes him ill at all, but he has made his own bed in the past couple of years.

Murphy will lead us to the unlit badlands.

EFA, Byngyy.

So am I.

I'm also hoping to win lotto, an olympic gold medal and for my girlfriend to ask me to bring home another girl for a good time.

Excellent, just what I like to see, a bit of optimism for the upcoming season. And getting 3 out of four won't be a bad result. Of course, you do realise you're more likely to be the world's first lotto-winning gold medalist gigolo, than to see the Murphy thing happen?? In fact, you're more likely to be the world's frst two time lotto winning, five time gold medal winning polygamist, than for the Murphy thing to happen.

Now where's Scopey been hiding?? Calls himself a buddy of Spud...:D:D

I've always been a bit of a Spud supporter (heck if you don't root for the underdog why back Freo?) but quite frankly, right now he is a depth player and will only get another chance to prove himself if Freo has some pretty devastating injuries.

In the 5 or so games Des played in 08 he showed he was a much more reliable at FF than Murphy.

Cut him some slack. Sounds like he's pretty desperate this preseason.

I was about to go on a rant (it was edited) about Murphy and his lack of input of the last few seasons. Seriously, there is no point. As his buddy has pointed out we should be supporting Freo players here, I can get on a rant when players have every reason to deliver but dont, it sure does not improve anything. In the last few years we have had some excellent surprises in regards to a player delivering- Broughton, Duffield, Hill, Suban, DeBoer etc. We should be cheering the team on and hopefully players like Murphy will come good. He needs to, he is aware that he needs to. Our coach is under pressure (from those dogs in the media) and needs his players to deliver, fingers crossed Murphy can give us a FF that will kick 50 goals in 2010. It is very unlikely but I sure hope that it happens.

Good luck Murphy, give it your best in 2010.

Cut him some slack. in round 13 who was our only goal kicker.
Who bagged 5 against blues in 06.

He just needs the opportunity because we all know he can perform.

He's training the house down.

That is what people say about Murphy every season...And then round 1 comes along and he produces the same shit.

Lets face it - Murphy had one good season when he over achieved - aside from that he has been a WAFL level player at best.

I think it is time to cut our loses on Murphy - time to send him to the glue factory I think.

I was being facetious in that regards because as you said, it's a recurring theme.

I hope every single player on the list busts the comp wide open this year but his playing history doesn't really invoke a positive vibe.

It does say something when you have to go back 4 years to a game against one of the shittest sides in AFL history to find a decent performance.

ba ZING!!! I am also looking forward to Carlton falling down the ladder in 2010. Here is hoping that they go back to their suck ass ways. It was SO sweet watching the Lions come back in the finals to wipe the smile off those Blues fans where were already singing their theme song. Hilarious!:D:thumbsu:

I'll cut him some slack when he deserves it, when he shows some heart, spirit and fight for our jumper.

No one deserves more criticism than Ryan Murphy. He is a chronic underperformer and doesn't try 100%. At least the dumbass brigade, Dodd, Grover, Keps, Schammer etc give their all.

I can't believe the criticism that Dodd, Schammer, Mundy, Headland etc cop on these boards compared to Murphy.

I hope he can turn it around and put in an effort. Maybe Harvey has finally got the message through to him that its now or never.

Murphy is a player of 20-15 years ago, today forward must have more strings to their bow than an ability to lead and mark the ball out in front.

His application was questionable last season but if you give the guy a clean slate this year I still think he is going to struggle. A forward of his size simply must impose themselves on the game otherwise they are of little use.

To be honest Mundy deserves more of our wrath than Murphy and Ibbotson is fast getting up there.
Both should be good players at the very least in the modern game and I suspect if traded would go on to be stars.

Again, (and yes I am aware that this could be considered stalking or the like, but the pattern is in the poster and not the postee), but what exactly do you base this assumption upon?
Are they somehow incapable of developing further under the current coaching regime?
Why would they suddenly blossom at another club?
If so, then why?

Not when they've got a kick like Murphy. He only needs to do it 4 times a match and he'd kick at least 3 goals, possibly 4. Pretty sure everyone would accept a return like that, even if he does jack shit the rest of the game. He'd certainly take some focus off Pavlich.

Alas he can barely do it once or twice a match.

In relation to Mundy, i'll hold judgement until the first few games of this season. He was pretty good in the last couple of matches - surprisingly hard at the ball. Very unMundy.

With Murphy, you don't just get it and then lose it. Murphy's got it, it just needs to be exploited in the right way. I don't know what that way is but to set him up circa 2006 (confidence is over-rated, he's just ****ed up since then) wouldn't do any harm.

I was a Campbell fan (a bit of West Perth bias) but realised long ago that he couldn't cut it.

Back Murphy in.

(George, one post, not that hard).
