Altho that new sandy flick is meant to be pretty good... (not like the last one which she ruined and hogged all the screen time from Ryan Reynolds )

Yeah, the reviews have been solid and my missus is keen on seeing it so we might go on Friday night.

It'll be that or 'Dear John', anyway.

I dont even have to see a review of Dear John to know its shit... that guy from some dance movie is the lead, with the dumb girl from "Mean Girls" as the female lead. Looks shiiiiiite.

See Sandra.. she is meant to win an Oscar for her performance.

Lol, an Oscar and Razzie in one year. What a legend.

I saw the trailer and thought it was okay, and it's directed by the outstanding Lasse Hallström (director of My Life As a Dog, Gilbert Grape, Chocolat, The Cider House Rules and The Shipping News).

I'll be interested to see what Margaret and David have to say about it tonight, if their review is decent i'll be seeing it, if only because it's another Hallström.

Last Chance Harvey

Despite being the usual predictable girly rom-com (albeit with much older than usual stars), i really enjoyed it.
It's a little disconcerting seeing Emma Thompson and Dustin Hoffman playing love interests, perhaps because he's 20+ years older or the fact she's a foot taller than him, but they somehow find a way to make it work.

Thompson and Hoffman are basically the only two characters in the film (the support cast barely get a look in) but they're both such good actors so i don't mind watching them for an hour and a half.

The Hurt Locker.

Great movie- even had our own Guy Pearce in it, and I TOTALLY missed him (ie. did not recognise him. :o). Stripey said he would take that as a compliment that i didnt, cause that means his American accent was spot on, etc...

But yeah, I recommend it- and definitely deserved the Best Pic over that rubbish Avatar. :thumbsu:

PS. If someone could tell me why the movie was called THL in the first place that would be great.:o :thumbsu:

I had no idea that guy was Guy Pearce. As cool as the opening scene was, James takes control of the movie the moment he steps in and you just forget.

I think the phrase 'the hurt locker' was used to describe the soldiers situation.

Currently I am watching Precious: the something something something. Last Oprah movie I saw was The Great Debaters and it was pretty good.

Edit: Precious was quite good. All sorts of messed up life stuff with great acting all round.

avatar was good though :S

anyway i seen alice in wonderland.. i mean it was good but not that good
i strongly agree with some of the reviews.. i think it never lived up to the expectation

Crash

I don't know how i missed it when it was first released, but i finally saw it this week and adored it.
Usually when you have a film with a) a dozen characters and b) a heap of relatively big name stars the script suffers and the characters aren't given enough time to develop but it was managed beautifully by Paul Haggis.

Given the cast, the quality of the film and the sheer depth of it it's amazing to find out that they only had a budget of $6M.

Don Cheadle and Terrence Howard were superb, Ryan Phillipe, Thandie Newton and Ludacris were all excellent but the two standouts for me were Matt Dillon and Larenz Tate.

Whenever i see Matt Dillon i immediately think of TSAM and see him as a comedy guy so i surprised that i bought into him in a really dramatic role whilst Larenz Tate, who was unknown to me before this, was simply outstanding.

And Don Cheadle... is he the guy out of Hotel Rawanda, amoung many other movies??? Very powerful film that one.

Haha
I so want to remember him from 'Wild Things', but instead it's always TSAM.
Damn my brain.

That's him.
He's a great actor who had a real barren patch through the early part of 2000's but he did Crash and Hotel Rwanda back to back and rightfully he started again getting some quality roles.

I don't like the direction he's taking now (big, action blockbusters like Iron Man), but i suppose everyone has to cash in at some point.

So apparently Guy Pearce was at Edge with us the Sunday after the Grand Final.

The level of Pearce’s standing among the players came the day after the Cats beat St Kilda in the grand final, as he was one of the few non-players invited to a private gathering at The Edge 24 hours after the game.

A soppy tear fest called "PS. I Love You".. at this point of my post I would like to add I borrowed this movie for free from my local library. :D

Anyway, it wasnt AS bad as I expected.. very slow in some places. Hillary Swank saved it I think, as she is a great actress. One scene was particularly heart breaking when long after her husband dies (which we do not see- he dies of a brain tumor apparently) crying in her mothers arms after the realisation sets in and this speech about how she is all alone. Makes you think about how important our relationships are. I definitely teared up at this scene. :o

Aw.. wish we had seen him.

Brothers

Easily the most painfully emotive film i've seen in recent years.
Jake Gyllenhaal has developed into an outstanding actor and once again was superb whilst Tobey Maguire went to great lengths for his role and pulled it off perfectly.

The whole black and white 'Americans are freedom fighters, bearded people from the middle east are terrorists' theme that runs through so much American cinema is again present here, which is frustrating if expected, but that aside i couldn't find a whole lot wrong with the film and it gets bonus points for featuring Ethan Suplee in a small role. :D

Saw Remember Me with bigdroppunt's lovely fiancee last night... I still don't know what to think of it. That ending was a sucker punch in the guts.

It was pretty ****ing bad... The dialogue was so shitty, the plot and everything... Oh my god. I did get quite a few laughs out of it though.

Today watched two pretty depressing, dark movies for some reason..

"Candy" with Heath Ledger. Disturbing look at a couple who are addictted to hard drugs. You watch this you'll never even look twice at drugs.. horrible things, destroy lives. The irony hey...

and "Boys Dont Cry"... jesus christ had no idea it would be that heavy. Based on a true story about a woman living her life as a man* in a typical hicksville town USA. You can imagine what happens to him in the end. And it all happened in 1993 ffs... very sad. :thumbsd:

*Hillary Swank tho looked like a woman tho. Come on, i cant believe the characters just believed and accepted him (until it was revealed who him/her really was) as a man. You could see she had no adams apples for gods sake!!!!! And had such delicate features... and a waist too.
