How scientific.

Buddy's 113 goal season was equally better than Reiwoldt's 39 as Goddards AA season was over Hodges AA season, while Rougheads 75 goal season wasn't top end.

May as well go:

Roughead > Reiwoldt
Buddy > Goddard
Hodge > Montagna
Mitchell > Dal Santo
Sewell < Hayes
Nup just add in Roughy > Kosi

I matched up players pretty well I thought.....

ie Goddard v Hodge, the two versatile blokes who can play anywhere
Mitchell v Hayes, the hard nuts

etc etc

Hawks key forwards were unbelievable tho

tazhawk you could pretty much say as well saints flogged hawthorn in the the 08 home and away season. We also beat you with a reserves side in 09 from my memory. It all balances itself out.

Not really talking top end anymore.

I agree.....Roughy miles better than Kosi
Buddy miles better than Roo

Is that difference enough to make up the saints better midfield?

Im not really sure it is even the best argument, as the Saints of 2009 were better than Saints 2010.

So comparing Hawks at their peak to Saints not at theirs.

I'd say that difference is clearly greater, but it also highlight's why you can't compare individual players to decide which team is better. Different strengths, styles, seasons etc.

Definately an odd comparison, just Panther angling for a Collingwood > Saints > Hawthorn result.

That's all it is - pretty pathetic really. I mean, he even doctored it to exclude the bench because the Hawthorn bench is better. Then, in the OP, he only mentions the top end talent as that is clearly St.Kilda's strength.

Hear is Hawthorns starting 18 from the 08 grand final.
the rating are based of the 08 session only.

FB:Gilham (B) - Croad (A) - Guerra (B+)
HB:Birchall (B+) - Hodge (A+) - Ladson (B+)
C: Lewis (A) - Mitchell (A) - Young (B)
HF:Osborne (B+) - Franklin (A+) - Rioli (B+)
FF:Williams (B+) - Roughead (A) - Brown (B)
Foll:Campbell (B) - Sewell (A) - Bateman (A)

and now Saints starting 18 from this years grand final.
again the rating are base on the 10 session only.

FB:Gram (B+) - Dawson (C+) - Gilbert (A)
HB:Blake (B) - Fisher (A) - Eddy (C+)
C: Goddard (A+) - Dal Santo (A) - Ray (B)
HF:Peake (C+) - Koschitzke (B) - Montagna (A)
FF:Schneider (B) - Riewoldt (A) - Milne (A)
Foll:Gardiner (B+) - Hayes (A) - Jones (B+)

Hawthorn have
A+ = 2
A = 6
B+ = 6
B = 4
C+ = 0
Saints have
A+ = 1
A = 7
B+ = 3
B = 4
C+ = 3

ill take hawthorns just.

I'd take Hawthorns at the time of the 08 vs 10. Some Hawks players have dropped in between time and don't seem as good as they did in 08. As for now - I have no idea - two very evenly matched squads with the same sort of problems and strengths.

BTW - If Franklin is an A+ then so is Riewoldt. If Franklin tried and worked as hard as Riewoldt then he would be the world's first A++++ but the fact of the matter is he doesn't, and he and Riewoldt are roughly equals.

Completely agree with that Jono (though I'm not the original poster), Riewoldt is a match winning, out and out gun. But I think Riewoldt was given an A as this is based on StKilda '10, whereby Riewoldt was injured for the majority of the year and was below his absolute best in the finals (e.g he kicked 37 goals for the year). In contrast, Franklin was absolutely flying in '08 and was (with Ablett) easily the best 1-2 players in the league (Riewoldt not in the top 10 for 2010).

I think he's referring to Reiwoldt's 2010 and Franklin's 2008?

One of the biggest myths perpetuated on BF is that Franklin doesn't work hard.

He works as hard as Riewoldt, no doubt.
The thing is, and most people know it, is that they play in different ways, and whereas Reiwoldt will burn off his opponent with 2 and 3 leads, Franklin will work up the ground and back again in one long motion.

Reiwoldt is a champion, no doubt, but I really don't understand those who say that Franklin doesn't work hard enough.

Massively over rating Hawthorn's list if you think everyone is B and up. Guerra B+? Laughable! Also Lenny's 2010, especially finals, would be an A+.
to be fair that's a good pull up Guerra. His 08 wasnt that good, injured though the session witch affected him. Guerra was very good this year so i must of over rated him because he didn't drop off like Osborne, Batmen and Ladson. should probly be a B though.

no i don't think every one on Hawthorns list is a B just those 18 players witch started on the filed in the 08 grand final at that time.
the only other one i would demote would be Gilham but he was pretty good in 08 since he wasn't the main tall.

All I know is one team has a PREMIERSHIP (which equals St Kilda's entire Premiership tally in there entire history) against one of the greatest single season teams of all time and the other........... well.............. doesn't. Ouch.
