AFL_PKeane - Patrick Keane tweeted this on 13 September.

Further, Compensation picks, if traded, are tied to the finishing order of the club that traded them, NOT the club that receives them.

So, the AFL has considered it, and have confirmed this already. If clubs (ie Rendell) aren't sure at trade week, it's not the AFL's fault.

The post i made on the last page could change things massively though..

Gws have found a loophole where they want to trade the number one mini draft pick to a club, then get it back off of the club with another trade..

They are not allowed to keep these 17 year olds in the mini draft but it appears no one has said they cant trade back the pick in the mini draft and then use it themselves..

Which they are trying to do so they can keep O'Meara..

Laughable, all of it..

This could actually help us secure a couple of picks in the mini draft.

We trade say pick 10 and Davis compo pick and Gunston pick for pick one in the mini draft and pick 14 or a mid/end 1st round compo pick

then trade back the pick one mini draft pick and Maric pick for picks 2 & 3 in the mini draft plus Pfeiffer

Pretty rough as this is just off the top of my head, but it could easily be evened out if required

"The Sydney Swans have not been shy in expressing their interest in Adelaide's Tony Armstrong, who wants to a trade to New South Wales.

But The Australian says the Swans received "lukewarm" interest when they offered Paul Bevan and Brett Meredith to the Crows on Monday."

Why did we turn this down?!?

It's really sounding like we're the ones wanting to do all the hard bargaining this year and try and get the absolute best deals possible in all situations. Just hope that doesn't bit us on the arse!

I think the club is trying to get quality rather than quantity and thank god for that:thumbsu:

Would rather come out of this with 2 or 3 gun highly regarded kids than getting a handfull of blokes who will be list cloggers in a year or two......

Bevan may not fit into the Crows philosophy of targeting players in between 20-24. Meredith on the other hand fits this, but I havent seen enough of him to pass judgement. Anyone shed any light on the boy?

Can't blame us for knocking back those two. Bevan is 27 and Meredith is a mid averaging 6 disposals a game. :thumbsd:

It's this sort of stuff that worries me about our recruiting. Whilst I rate Rendell as an excellent judge of talent, I don't think he is very good at the fine print and manipulating rules for our benefit. We really need someone else looking in to all of this sort of stuff.

I wonder if Rendell is even aware of this as a possibility? We could quite easily get two picks in the 17 year old draft by manipulating something like this.

Armstrong and pick 10 to GWS for pick 1 (17yo). Pick 1 (17 yo) to GWS for pick 14 and pick 2 (17 yo).

Anyone want to email Rendell to give him the heads up?

No interest in Bevan. We don't need a 27 year old bit player.

Possibly interested in Meredith but he's only managed 16 games in 3 years. Not sure if he'd bring much to our team that we don't have already (I can see jaensch, martin, tambling etc. all playing ahead of him. I could see Armstrong playing ahead of him too if they were both on our list). I'
d rather a draft pick... but their first rounder is gone and 43 would prob be too low.
Having said that I haven't seen enough of him to make a definitive judgement.

I can see why there's only lukewarm interest though.

You guys must think you can get Johnston if your after a player. Though if that's the case Armstrong would only be a steak knife in the deal.

Would be more than happy to work with GWS to obtain picks 1 and 2 and send them back 1.....if it means we pay unders for 2.

The trade you show above is uneven and would be unlikely to be ok'd by the AFL. Other clubs would already be offering more than Armstrong and 10 for mini draft pick 1 for starters.

You can't do an uneven trade (we pay well under) for mini draft pick 1 to be balanced up by a subsequent trade where GWS pay way under for the same pick, which is what you've done above.

The scenario that I've put in an earlier post would probably also need some work, but both trades are at least roughly even.

And I think that Rendell, Noble and the other recruiting staff would be well aware of these types of trade possibilities. It is why the Maric and Gunston deals would need to be done first. I also think it is perhaps why we haven't given a low draft pick for Pfeiffer (or someone like him) as he could be a "make weight" in any deal with GWS, Armstrong could be as well going the other way.

I dont think anyone should worry about Rendell. No offence to anyone intended but I am sure emails being sent to him by Crows fans wouldn't be the most exciting part of his job, especially this busy time of year

For all wondering it was just confirmed on Trade Week radio the Compo mid round picks are tied to the teams that originally had them, not who they are traded too.

FYI, I rang TW Radio this am and sought clarification on the band 2 compo process.

Wallace confirmed precisely, having checked with the AFL this morning, that band 2 picks come after the first round pick of the INITIAL RECIPIENT in the year that pick is activated. ie. not after the pick of the subsequent holder should it be traded

I might suggest, therefore, that if you were considering trading it, now might be a good year to do so as it's perceived value (given many clubs may suspect you are unlikely to challenge in 2012) is high.

Or, hold on to it and reap the benefits yourself

Of course, the ideal scenario would be to trade it for its perceived (high) value and then have such a good year that the compo pick becomes less valuable than it was expected to be

Anyway, I just noted that this was discussed at length here so thought I'd share it. Be well

His name is David Noble and yes the club is already well ahead of you on this.

Hopefully a Maric deal can be done that leaves both teams happy.

Yeah we would love to see him here. And yes I'm sure it would take more than Armstrong to get him here.
