Not happy with this shite :thumbsd:
Me either, I think we'd all take Caff ahead of Toovey, let alone adding what has occurred over the past few days.

We could have egg on our face on Monday if the deadline hits and Tooves and Caff walk out on us, that's the worst case scenario of course.

Trade Toovey now, to WA, for anything, then re sign Caff, do it now.

Yep it would, that and keeping Macaff could be the best outcome.

In the worst case scenario, Tooves goes to PSD and is picked up by some other side and we get nada, or he could go to GWS and we get a compo pick. In both instances we'd get some cap relief.

That cap relief could be used with Cafe or used elsewhere on other players.

I reckon Cafe could play a shut-down role from defence, only 2 cm's shorter than Toovey at 187cm. Pretty sure he's played down there before and is also as we know a sound 6 2" forward.

Basically need to know what Toovey's intention is. Not sure though that Pies would not offload Cafe anyway, even if Toovey goes.

Given what has come to light during this trade week and the way the respective parties have carried themselves, I'm hoping we reward Macaffer's attitude when compared to that of Toovey and his quasi-manager.

Both played important roles in our premiership side and like most here, I strongly believe we really missed Caff up forward this year. Toovey is amongst our top three - perhaps two - defenders for pure stopping ability and would be a loss.

They're both players we can cover individually, although losing them both would be a different story -- especially if we get little or nothing in return. My worst fear is that scenario playing out.

I'm guessing the club is sounding out the opposition and will move the player they can get the most value from. Hopefully they're pushing Toovey at the moment, with the intention of reopening talks with Caff once that debacle is sorted out.

I guess our cap space is a lot worse than most imagined.

Does that mean we don't even have room for 200-250k (which is what I'm presuming they would offer Caff).

Who else is uncontracted atm? Macaffer, Toovey, McCarthy...

Nah we are holding off for a late push at Goddard ;).

I am a big wrap for the Caff as his role in the 2010 flag was crucial (IMO).

I think he might have some off field issues that have assisted with his fall from grace.

I think the salary cap situation is not good at the club so i am bracing myself for the worst :thumbsd:

Buckley does not need this, we need stability and as much continuity as possible.

Yep, I'm pretty sure a couple of years ago he was played across half-back a few times in the VFL, where he collected extremely good numbers whilst also using the ball very well. I remember a few games where his perfectly weighted kicks coming out of defence to forward moving players - none of which had to break stride - really stood out.

Even though he made his name up forward last year, I've always thought Caff had a fair bit of versatility and could see him, with further development, running through the midfield or filling holes at the other end.

Here's hoping we can keep him and get him right for 2012.

Any love for Mitch Brown if Tooves is off to WA?

I haven't seen much of him over last couple of years but in debut season I thought he looked great to be honest. A lot of zip and flair.

But I think if Toovey was to go to WA we'd possibly be looking at Koby Stevens if the punters are right.

i personally would be getting the playing group together and asking them do they want to stay together, if so and hopefully so, put to them a 2.5% across the board paycut to all contracts, that frees up about 220k and should help top up those players contracts who are in negotiation.
although i wouldnt cut dawes contract, his attitude has been more than any supporter could ask for.
if this doesnt satisfy both toovey and mccaffer, work out who is more important long term to the club and offload the other.
cant see it happening but sacrifices need to be made for success

Does GWS actually get a pick in the PSD? I'd assume that's where Tooves will go if a trade isn't completed.

We don't need Macaffer down back. Like most have said, we've missed Macaffer but only because of his ability up forward.

Although not equally as good as Toovey (imo), we at least have Goldsack down back.

Doubt very much that this is the case. Occam's Razor: most straightforward explanation probably the best here.

Eddie stated the other day that the squeeze is on middle rung players. Cafe fits right in there hence is struggling to get more money. I think he's of great value as a 'small' forward - as a mark, kick and harrasser - but maybe they think they can get that elsewhere on the list and cheaper.

We won't be able to pay Mitch Brown. The best we could do is steak knives with upside. I like Stevens for that reason, we've largely been neglecting the early draft mods for a few years because we've traded away our early picks.

They have 12 of the top 20, ridiculous shit.

Yep... and when those 12 (should be) guns and their friends from next years draft get to 22-24 and they want their fair share of the pies, every other club will take what is rightfully theirs.:D

Seriously shattered if we loose Caff!

perhaps some of the folks on here (myself included) are the only ones that seem to rate his importance in the 2010 Premiership win...

would have been ALLLLLOT better in this years GF a match-up for Scarlett than what Dids' was :(

How long do the GC and GWS have expanded lists and expanded salary caps?

I'm looking forward to next year being only a relatively rather than completely r*ped draft year.

This is true, but to get them we and other clubs will probably cough up all our first round draft picks, which regenerates their list and makes them more successful for longer. A monster has been created.
