actually selecting kids in friendlies is kinda, you know, normal. especially when that kid is very very decent.

For example?

Club sides will hand out debuts in friendlies for fun. International sides rarely do. Especially to 23 year olds that are yet to achieve anything at their club.

What is an acheivement for a RB?

Establishing yourself in your sides best XI. Putting together consistent season/seasons at the top level.

Kelly, at 22 has only made 24 appearances in the league, and only 12 this season.

Well he is fairly injury prone.

And in those 24 appearances he hasn't had a bad game and is normally one of the best on the pitch. He just has to get past Glen Johnson, the best RB in the league to get into the side.

Probably meant best English. Being a citeh fan you wouldn't know much about them. To be fair though if you did buy the entire English side you probably would be about where we're placed.

Also funny you like to make digs at league position like that reflects on a players ability. Sure held Suarez back in Copa America.

Hart, Lescott, Richards, Barry, Milner. I'd have our squad of English players over any other teams.

League position doesnt reflect ability but I'd expect an England international to have played more than 24 times for a mid table club by the time he hits 22.

Suarez on the other hand has broken through and proved he could play at a high level in two countries. Strange comparison.

As for best English RB or best RB, my point pretty much remains the same.

But you are mentioning backup meaning you're not good enough. He's backing up the England RB, you honestly don't think he could be starting at RB for half the teams in the league? In fact many of us argue he could be starting over Johnson who had one of his better seasons(once healed), so that in itself from those who watch every game instead of the uneducated who go off league positions as quality of player, something I find funny from a fan of a club who has bought so deep any hack could look good making up the numbers, Kelly meanwhile has looked good when he's been called on in a team you like to remind us is ordinary. I imagine under the new manager Kelly will be starting one way or the other.

Looks like one title has already given you Barca fan syndrome. If you're offended over Richards not getting a gig, I agree he's been incredibly unlucky but seems silly to downplay Kelly's ability over it. Pretty petty.

*edit* Just to add. Given how well he played I would of at least trialed playing Johnson on the right wing and starting Kelly at RB. Given we were starting Downing and Bellamy(to put downer on the left so he could stink up there) at times, Johnson couldn't of been any worse.

Kelly isnt the first liverpool "superstar of the future" their supporters have raved about who is yet to prove he deserves anything like the plaudits he gets.

He doesnt have any (???) experience at the highest level and isnt likely to in the near future. He's 22 and his cv includes 24 league games in three/four years and an inability to force his way past Glenn Johnson.

That doesnt mean he wont turn into a good player but right now he shouldnt be anywhere near the England squad IMO.

Not sure what our title win has to do with anything. I was critical of Walcott getting a world cup spot when we were at the lower end of the table. And he at least had the benefit of age and potential superstardom on his side.

I meant to say England.

Really?

Richards is the best RB in the league. Followed by Sagna.

Sagna is better then Johnson. Johnson is a better all round RB then Richards IMO. Not that certain Citeh fans will accept it. As for Kelly an outstanding talent, just unfortunate for him that GJ is at the same club and in the form of his life. Personally is like to see him play CB more.

Sagna is better defensively than most FBs, but he does lack a bit in going forward, however I think he's still fantastic.

Richards had the better season, but Sagna was injured for a lot of it. Think Sagna has been the best RB in England for some time though.

We are talking about the England team here. I'm sure Kelly isn't the worst player to ever get a call up mate. And it's only a friendly.

On another note...

Looks like Aurelio is off for good this time. Free transfer to Gremio. Great player, could be injured for weeks and would always slot straight back in and be like he had played for weeks. Shame about the injury record. Didn't he cop some really weird injury playing in the backyard with his kids?

Thanks for the goal against United. And who could forget his free-kick vs Chelsea in that 4-4.

Certain City fans? I doubt you would find one that thinks Johnson is a better fullback.

I bet I could find plenty of Liverpool supporters that think hes not though.

I'm not saying the match should be abandoned or anything, just that it's a sign of how bad things are that hes even being considered.

I rate Richards extremely highly, but this is now the 2nd England manager that has opted for either Johnson or Walker ahead of him (not to mention Mancini selecting Zabaleta ahead of him in the big games in the 2nd half of this season), and I feel like they are probably better qualified than any of us to judge a players ability. Micah's non-selection in this pre-Euro friendly squad seems more to do with him not wanting to be selected on the standby list for the Euros than Martin Kelly necessarily being a better footballer. Having said that, I've been very impressed with Kelly whenever he's been called upon this season, and would have no worries about his ability to perform if he does end up with his 1st cap this weekend.

Micah lost his place in the side firstly because he got injured, and subsequently because he wasnt fit for 90 minutes.

So we can clear that up from the start.

He made 23 starts before his injury from a possible 28/29. Zaba made 6 or 7.

I love the way Zabaleta played at the end of the season but Micah was without a shadow of a doubt our best RB.

As for the second manager to ignore him, simply Micah didnt deserve to play for England when Capello took over.

Consecutive managers pick Stewart Downing so probably not the best test of a player either.

Moomba, you're way off on this one. He has played for England at every level coming through the ranks. Last couple of seasons he has broken through into the first team set up at Liverpool, fighting for a spot with Englands number 1 RB in Glen Johnson. Kelly will play 50+ times for England. He is that good. You obviously havent seen him play.... at all.

I have seen him play, he's done ok in his 24 league appearances. But nothing to justify the jizzfest he gets from scousers IMO.

As I said, I'm not saying he is a bad player or he isnt going to make it.

But as it stands the fact he is anywhere near a senior england squad is a sign that the cupboard is bare.
