well if we offload Mclean and Warnock that frees up 800-900 a season. Which we can use on cloke. Our window is 3 years before Gold Coast and GWS start tearing it up, so we need to do everything we can to get a premiership in that time, and cloke will go along way towards achieving that, pretty much may be the missing piece. Although i do think it is overs paying him, it has to be done to give us the best opportunity to win one.

Has anyone else heard the rumour that Cloke was about to sign with freemantle, however malthouse told him to wait because hed be at carlton next year and to sign there? As i said just a rumour

Don't think Kreuze would've demanded too much. Knocked back GWS' offer fairly quickly so maybe money isn't an issue for him.

Your original words were:

i would be willing to trade both (even tho i love both) to often we assume a young player will be a superstar.
Travis Cloke is a excellent fullforward, bootsma is a promising young player who has the potential to play wing, hff, hbf or at best in the middle.
our time is in the immediate future not when bootsma is 24 at the prime of his career.

I don't think it's a good idea because (1) it would be a mistake to trade two extremely promising young players for TC and (2) TC is available under FA so any decision to give up players would be madness.

I suggested that there would be damage each and every year by giving 5 million to Cloke. I did use Watson and Bootsma as an example. I wouldn't want to let any of our younger players go. I have read some people's posts since, keen for that to happen to get Cloke Talk like this makes me sad... lol
Boots is going to be a star and Watson will be better than Lake.
Our forward line worked well on Friday and we seriously don't need him!

Cheers ... and for the record, while I want to see Hendo play forward I do understand the attraction of Travis Cloke up forward, with all his money hungry ways and the spectre of David hanging over it all. Big key forwards are worth a lot when it's September, the pressure is on, and the mids need to be able to smack it forward under some pressure, knowing that someone will be there.

only reason is when the boys panic they bomb it in the fifty and it gets rebounded out immediately with cloke he might grab a few and hopefully slot a few through.
i agree tho when we play on song we dont need him and no team can beat us, i just hate for grand final day be a wet day or a day when the boys are bombing it forward with no targets.
