Got to love BF.

When Lynch was connected to Carlton, everyone is like "Lynch is an old hack, LOL good luck with him Carlton" etc... then when the Pies are connected everyone is like "Oh yes, very nice get for the Pies, will be a great replacement for Leigh Brown" etc.

Could be due to the fact that Carlton would use lynch as their number 1 forward whereas Collingwood already has cloke and dawes.

I can't understand why Essendon have such a hard on for Goddard. He's not going to win them a flag on his own and by the time they have addressed the midfield problem he's going to be well into his twilight years...I suppose it's not costing them anything in the way of picks or players but still....

I hope everyone keeps posting crap to deter lazy journalists.

I heard a rumour Caroline Wilson played Bobby Simpson on Home & Away before she became a football reporter and the first woman of football.

I totally agree with you.
If only Caro would get in a speed boat :p

You could apply the same logic to us making the decision to acquire Judd, he is now 29 with his best years behind him, whilst the decision was the correct one, Bombers will pick up a quality player without giving away picks or players, if he can return to his form of two years ago he will make a significant difference to them.

Goodard's body is sound so it is a major coup for Essendon.

I disagree, it's like us recruiting Judd now, not Judd 5 years ago.

The difference being we got Juddy as a 24 year old, therefore being confident we were going to get a number of years of good football out of him (as we have), whereas Essendon are recruiting a player who turns 28 early next season & who is coming off two ordinary years of football & is not exactly the type of player they need to increase their midfield depth.

The only similarities I see is that both Judd & Goddard will have been the highest paid players at their respective new clubs. That worked with Judd because he was the best player at the club & arguably the best player in the competition at the time, whereas Goddard will not be the best player at Essendon & currently would not be in the Top 50 players in the competition.

I think the mindset would be totally different if he was coming to Carlton on here, Goddard has four good years left, his body is in good shape, he will be a good acquistion no doubt, the point with Judd was we acquired him when we were rock bottom we were always going to take some time to reach a point where we could launch a serious challenge and he is now 29 and our best finish has been fifth.

There is absolutely no reason why Goddard cannot recapture his best, he appeared stale in his environment, this maybe the spark he needs.

Of course it would be different because, imo, our list is far better equipped for a flag tilt than the Bombers. I'm not criticising the Bombers because he isn't costing them anything but I don't think there is much chance of himing being the difference that brings them in a premiership.

As of 12.00 this afternoon, that is incorrect.

This is not having a go at you, but a serious question, In the 1hr 45 min inbetween you posting you were convinced he was coming he actually changed his mind and signed with the filth?
Did he say he was coming to us? If so is that not a bit of a dogs act?

Spot on MS.
Whilst Goddard is a very good player, he is not the type Essendon need.
They need at least one, maybe two players of reasonable quality to help out Watson in the middle. Guys like Zaharakis and Stanton are outside runners at best, Hocking is a fat @rsed wombat and Lonergan/Melksham are battlers but not top shelf material.

Still, let them spend that much on Goddard - won't win them a flag anytime soon.

Cannot believe that people are saying Goddard will not be good for Essendon.

Goddard plus Daniher plus improvements in their young mids plus fewer injuries will make them a very good team next year. Goddard will be given licence to roam in and out of the midfield, off half back and half forward. He'll be rejuvenated. We have missed a massive chance to strengthen our mid field to be the league's best. Our window is now, and he's capable of delivering. Very disappointed that we've never been in the game.
