I love the fact we opened Marc Murphy's official captaincy with a GF loss.

Suck it up princess.

I still cannot look at him without thinking ****, but this mitigates it somewhat.:)

Carlton had 4 no. 1 draft picks out there, not one of them with that bit of mongrel of Vossy, or the never say die of Blackie. Walker, Kreuzer, Gibbs, Murphy. Soft, down hill skiers the lot.

Greenie outmarking Yarran with one arm was a lovely thing to look at.

Remember Dr. Kerr's draft summary "we wanted another tall, but felt Josh Green was just too good a footballer to pass over".

PattyK was the same - played his last junior season with glandular fever(or something) but impressed because he never gave up, or used it as an excuse. Kudos Rob, & team. He got caught a couple of times, but I prefer that to panic unloading of the ball. He will learn. Same as his shanked goal attempt when he should have passed off. But what an uncanny ability to be where needed, when needed - & such damaging disdosal. We must put up with his bloopers, & play him regardless to learn, & build a tank - because in 50 more games we will have an unstoppable star. Becoming my favorite very rapidly.

The rest has been pretty well said. Never in my wildest did I imagine us embarrassing them the way we did. Priceless. And they gave up - in the last THEY THREW THE TOWELL IN! Week as p*** football club that will never win a flag. God it feels good. GO LIONS.

Reckon you're wrong sonny jim!
You can't talk to me that way, I went to Harvard!

Loved the agility and confidence of Beams to avoid the two tackles as well to set up the inside 50. Can't teach that kind of swagger. I love how confidence seems to be contagious in our group at the moment, they are all feeding off each other.

That was probably the biggest improvement last night compared to the last few seasons. Our willingness to take opponents on, and to be tackled.

My "trolololol" moment of the night was Rog outmarking a Carlton player in defence (Hampson perhaps?) despite the fact he was not favoured by the ball drop. Gave him an absolute gobfull afterwards too.

As I said above, loving the swagger.

It was Mitch Robinson, makes it even better.

Our golden era team under Lethal Leigh invented "Unsociable Footy". The swagger is returning and as the confidence grows we will be adding "Arrogant Unsociable footy"

Acorn, couldnt get free, but i will say made many many leads, most times as a decoy it looked like and the boys never looked for him. Say what you will , but it is hard to get the ball ,when you lead as many times as he did and no one passes it to you. Time and time again, we were brown concious. He did create space for Brown i thought.

(snip)

Really excellent synopsis VtB. I've highlighted the point I was going to come on and make myself- Acorn did not appear to stop leading all night, but the lads just kept burning him and going for Brown.

Other than that I've heard Brown say twice now that we've not really been practicing structures, more training on instinct which is interesting. Obviously this is different to, say, midfield set ups and game plan- which appears to more a Geelong style free flowing, moving the ball on quickly with handballs and precise kicking. I enjoy the ad lib feel to it, and enjoy more our ability to execute such a style.

Have listened a couple times, have to agree with Haso this time.

You're both mad. We need a poll on this.

You even hear the laugh transition into the "...into the top deck" statement by Dunstall.

Definitely Dunstall

Besides Haso , Dwayne wouldn't have understood what was said or going on. Pretty sure in the complete replay you can here him straight after say "what happened?":D

At the risk of being a slight Debbie Downer, our fitness seems almost too good for this time of the year.

Really feels like we've structured our pre-season around our fixture because we know we have to make hay in the early rounds before the round 6-14 horror stretch.

Just hope our young fellas don't have an Essendon burn-out half way through.

Hopefully the Bombers' collapse was more a result of them mainlining horse testosterone directly into their eye-balls rather than mismanaging their fitness levels.

Yeah, we don't have The Weapon jabbing us.

Hopefully the Arizona trip proves advantageous.

There's always a chance we've gone too hard too early, though the Birdman has performed admirably with our injuries recently, and we finished the year really strongly last year.

The other benefit of having increased depth is the ability to rotate players out of the side for rest. If we start the year strongly I wonder if we'll replicate some of last year's finalists in this. Obviously if we're battling for wins this may be a luxury we can't afford.

Reckon maybe there's a bit of anticipation of the proposed cap to come in play next season. Players will need to be much fitter to run out matches, which we did pretty well last night despite the 6 day break.

Yeah, I had the same thought as dog but the Birdman has not put a foot wrong since arriving. Has been extremely professional and very long term focused.

Would be surprised if we have overcooked it.

...But on the other hand yes we do look almost too fit.

After triple travel and coming off a six day break; if you had to pick one player who might struggle, who would it have been?

Exactly!

Ace has improved a lot in 2013 already, but these factors all may have been a bit too much to ask. He's working on it. Only seven players on our entire list racked up more minutes than Ace over the entire NAB Cup (Bewick, Martin, Polkinghorne, Yeo, Zorko, Moloney & Rockliff), and two of those seven were rested for a half against GWS.

He's got some time to freshen up now. I've still got him in my Round 1 squad.

Really good point, I think.

I guess the good news is that there are at least half a dozen players who can give the current 22 a spell if needed.
