My best guess is it has to do with the stigma that guys who get tattoos are 'bad boys' or alpha males, so to speak.

I don't like alpha males. They are so annoying, they talk over the top of you, they dominate the conversation and think they're more important to an interaction than they actually are. I'm not saying they're all bad but as a general rule i don't enjoy their company.
I have to chair a board meeting and half the attendees are alpha males. I'm thinking about bringing a whistle - they're really hard to control. They're loud, talk over the top of each other and don't give the quieter/shyer people are chance to say anything. Energy sapping sillys.

I think there is a difference between being an alpha male and just being brash. This is without delving into Pick Up Artist type principles. Guys who are loud mouthed and incapable of controlling what they do/say are usually just dicks, and not necessarily an 'alpha male'. Alpha male is a rotten term, in my opinion anyway. It suggests a guy who just doesn't give a shit about anything and is a dick, where as I see it more than that.

I see alpha males as people who show confidence in what they do, and when you see them out with people they aren't dicks or leaders as such, but they seem to be the centre of attention from their mates and friends. So, they are leaders in some sort of sense.

As I said, alpha male is a term that I think has grown to mean guys who are just plain dicks, which I don't see as the case at all. But, this is all pick up artist type junk.

I'm not saying that alpha males are bad to the core or not worthy of time, they're usually fine in a one on one situation.

At a party or in a group situation I don't enjoy the company of loud and dominate people, however in a one on one situation you will see a completely different side to them.

The alpha male stereotype that you think of is not necessarily the one I think of. Confident, assertive and even cocky are desirable traits. Arrogant isn't desirable and that's when you push cocky to the point of it not being a joke anymore. There is definitely a difference.
Even in relationships, some of those attributes are very important. Many 'alpha males' are also very level-headed and can even be reserved. You can be confident, assertive and even cocky, while still being level-headed and reserved.

You just got your shit better organised earlier. If something unexpected happened and you were late, the other person just waited for you. If you didn't make it at all, they eventually worked it out and didn't wait any longer. Then the next day or some other time you would catch up and explain what happened.

They didn't they just rocked up late. Unless someone had access to a landline (meeting was at a home etc) people just got given reputation as late comers. Its where I reckon the tradition of giving early times for events started. i.e. You want to kick off something at 8 but tell everyone 7 30 as you acknowledge a lot of people will just rock up late.
