What the hell is an alpha male anyway? Title gets bandied about as a catch all to explain everything from men acting: violently, showing leadership, being loud, being rich, being the emotionless silent type, being the life of the party. Or is it just one of those over used terms that essentially means nothing?

How people share drinks and food. Even if it's their family. Did you not see Seinfeld? You are sipping up other people's saliva. Damn disgusting.

My reaction when I see it:

It's just a loose term to describe the type of person who naturally slots into group leadership positions. It usually requires varying degrees of charisma, intelligence, assertiveness, confidence and decisiveness depending on the makeup of the group.

Thoughts on kissing then?

I would want to make sure they have no bits of partially digested food in their mouth and I would try and inspect their cleanliness if possible. As someone who also has immune lowering medication, it's also another reason I never share my drinks or food with people.

I have no problem with sharing food. Ignorance is bliss.

That's why, if you drop my food or something, just don't tell me about it.

So you have no problem with it, but you don't want to know that you're doing it?
HAVE YOU GONA BANANAS?!

People I dont- nah. When i was on my contiki i refused to share food around, esp on the bus, and didnt accept any either.

A nice bout of gastro went around, that i did not catch. :)

Oh yeah, I'm not THAT bad. I definitely won't be eating strangers leftovers. Heck if I could, I probably wouldn't even have to pay for Maccas anymore!

Yeah, I've never understood what some chicks see in alpha males.

Not saying all are like this, but what's so good about guys who are brash, loudmouthed, and incapable of controlling what they do/say? Is it the whole stigma of them being "blokish" or is there something I've missed?

Chicks?

Probably because they get sick of waiting for the quiet, shy guys to make a move.

Plenty of girls fall for the quiet types, but when the girls are quiet as well, it often makes for a lonely time.

Who should be paying for the meal on the first date in the day and age?

The man, IMO. Though coffee is usually safer for a first date. It's cheaper and less formal. The last girl I went on a date with we had coffee first and I paid. We went for dinner and a movie the next time, I knew from a 3rd party that she didn't want me to pay but I did anyway and she then insisted on paying for the movie - it got to the point that it was actually quite uncomfortable to discuss. I haven't seen her since that night.

Agree with this. The 'alpha male' type isn't always a dick, but with self confidence comes a certain sort of arrogance.

It's the guys who can find the balance between confidence and brashness that really win out.

I generally offer and if she protests I say that she can pay next time. If she insists we split it then it often says something about the likelihood of a second date.

Girls who let a guy pay on the first date without any meaningful protest I view somewhat dimly.

The women could always do the initiating but this rarely happens. I don't know if it is biological (probably partly) or the social custom for Australia but women tend not to approach men in 95% of cases. If it is going to go anywhere the man will have to be the one to make a move.

What if she's an escort and you go to dinner with her?

Isn't this a universal social custom?

Could be and I think so. Haven't lived in another country/had experience enough of another culture so can only speak to the situation in Australia. One thing thou Australia doesn't really have a culture of approaching strangers. i.e. People having a chat in a public space. Most are actually wary of having strangers randomly talk to them. Therefore for men it can be difficult initiating contact with women. The only socially designated place really are pubs and clubs. So if you can cut through the noise it is easier for those types of people. The quiet, reserved and not big drinker types will no doubt find it harder.

By and large, girls who approach men outright are presumed to be easy. I am not surprised that they do not do it more often.

You think? Maybe by yobbos on the gas who like to big note. I'd guess a substantial proportion of men would be flattered to be approached. For whatever reason thou it rarely happens.

I think as well as that, it leaves a girl feeling 'desired' so to speak if they are approached. Girls like to feel like you want to talk to them, like you want to date them.
Most girls love it when guys approach them, even if they don't want to date them.

Funny you say this.

Last Friday, me and a few friends were on the tram and talking about uni and stuff. Some random dude started talking to us about our courses right out of the blue. After a few awkward nodding of the head and "yes, yep, yeah", he finally moved onto some kids that were sitting next to him. After that it was some lady that he offered his seat to. After that it was 2 chicks who were carrying luggage, and he asked them where they were going. TBF to him, the chick was an outright bitch and told her friend to go sit on the seats on the other side of the tram. Overheard his conversation saying that he was a Queenslander, where apparently it's normal to strike up conversations with randoms.

Anyway, after his awkward as **** conversation with the 2 girls, he told us to "huddle in" and said this: "Hey, huddle in guys huddle in, you know what's the secret to getting a ****? It's all a numbers game. So if you have a 1 in 100 chance of ****ing a chick, then just ask 100 girls..."

Thank god it was actually our stop, we thanked him for the advice and left.
