The key feature is that no expatriate Australians are eligible to play. Teams comprise solely of players who must be nationals of the country they represent.

To me this feature alone makes the tournament more legit in terms of player eligibility than many other World cups of various sports. The Rugby League World cup for instance certainly doesn't have this strict criteria.
