Trade Talk 2013 - Yeo, Doc, Polec, Karnezis, Longer gone - Welcome Paine, West, Magwon!

At first, I was interesting in exploring Grant as an option. But unless we do think we can turn him into a half back flanker to replace Yeo, then I'm no longer that keen. I don't really see Staker/McGuane as being competition for him - they are more like KPPs than running types. However, I think we've got good coverage with Bewick, Zorko, Hanley, Mayes etc - our runners who play forward of centre roles and who are regulars in our best 22. We also rest inside mids up forward (Rockliff, Redden, Rich etc) and if Green improves his engine, he is also an option to get up field more.
I'm not putting Paparone into that mix (not without seeing a bit more) but clearly we've recruited him to play that sort of linking role too.

I tend to think that he's a better footballer than people give him credit for but, like you say, he's not the best fit for our squad.

I'm becoming more interested in Kane Lucas as a trade option.

Thing about Grant, is although he may be inconsistent, he is a natural forward. He has great goal sense & instincts. I'd have him roaming around the half forward flank. IMO it is much easier sending a forward to the backline than sending a backman up forward to kick goals.

Paul Connors on TWR now - Talking about Longer saying that he could still end up at the Hawks or stay with the Lions. Other clubs were mooted but none named.

I'm open to grant providing we get his best. I would personally play him deep as a leading/crumbing option. I think green is our closest thing to a crumber (excluding zorko as i think he does his best work up a littlebit)and grant is exceptional below his knees. Not your conventional crumbing forward and thats where i believe he'd provide that x factor. Obviously my interest is based on which grant we might get.

Likely scenario if Billy stays is he will want only a one or possibly two year contract so that he can test the waters again next time. Good for us in a way in that he will be dead keen to perform so that his value goes up, and we may get him to change his mind anyway. Bad in that we will have a player who would prefer to be somewhere else.

I would actually laugh if Karnezis ended up in the VFL next year.

Unashamedly.

Like, a great big belly laugh.

Even ending up on a rookie list would be chortle-worthy.

Gotta think St Kilda are dreaming up some sort of player/pick 3 trade with GWS so they can grab pick 1.

The only way I could see the Saints getting pick no 1 off the Giants in a two-club-deal is if Jack Steven was involved. He is the only blue chip asset the Saints have that the Giants might be interested in that I can think of.

Only other possibility is if the Saints are putting together a gift-basket of draft picks to send off to a third club, who will on-trade an established player to the Giants, giving the Saints pick one.

But which club would prefer three picks in the top 20 (or whatever it would be) ahead of pick #1? Melbourne maybe? But who would they have to trade?

Pretty risky with SUckling coming off a knee reco. Would love him at the club though.
More than risky, would be silly imo. Not likely to play at all next year and we can't afford to have guys on the list on contract and decent money who may never come up.
