Pick 20 is a second round pick that will become pick 22 once compensation is awarded for FA. I think this is a very fair price to pay for Polec.

I agree, but I'm not convinced we're interested in any of them, or that any of them would agree to be traded to Brisbane for that matter. I think we might be talking about players with Adelaide to try and up the Power's offer.

I quite like Lyons. He seems like he could be a genuine extractor, and maybe useful in the forwardline as well. Players have to be coaxed into coming to Brisbane, though, and I don't think he's worth the three year deal at good money we generally have to pony up to get players from other clubs.

EDIT: If Leppitsch is genuinely keen to keep Polkinghorne around and give him games, then the chances of us going out and getting Lyons or Wright are reduced.

Trading is all risk reward. You don't know how the player you are getting will turn out, especially with drafting and recruiting in experienced players. Polec may turn into a very good player but his current trajectory may follow the same trends he's demonstrating in Brisbane. With all due respect to him, not much. We don't know that, that's why it's a risk.

Saying that, if you suggest Polec is worth pick 20 (to become 22) doesn't that then devalue a player like Vince? Shouldn't his value become a higher commodity based on the known factor?

I feel your pain, we have the same troubles but for very different reasons. However, personally I'd rather move to Brisbane than move to Sydney or somewhere like that.

Not at all, it's saying that pick 20-22 is around market value for an older type player who doesn't maximise his potential. As well as saying that pick 20-22 is around market value for a young, talented player that has been devastated by injury, work ethic and a lack of maturity.

Rob Kerr (Lions talent manager) was on the TWR earlier in the week hinting that Jared was only now doing the things asked of him when he was at the Lions because his best mate Brodie Smith had been taking him under his wing and doing the gym and running that Jared needs to do to maximise his potential. I feel Adelaide are responding to this and hence Vince has tested at Melbourne FC today (I'm sure he will be hitting the clubs tonight too...). We obviously didn't want Vince but we have stated we're looking for a second round selection to cover for Polec or perhaps a player (although if we don't lose as many as we first suspected then a pick may become more agreeable).

I would in a heartbeat. Redden is a good solid player,but he's never gonna be an A-grader or star midfielder. Tackles like a champ and uses the ball ok,but fairly easily replaced if we're being honest. I'll take the hulking full forward thank you

At first, I was interesting in exploring Grant as an option. But unless we do think we can turn him into a half back flanker to replace Yeo, then I'm no longer that keen. I don't really see Staker/McGuane as being competition for him - they are more like KPPs than running types. However, I think we've got good coverage with Bewick, Zorko, Hanley, Mayes etc - our runners who play forward of centre roles and who are regulars in our best 22. We also rest inside mids up forward (Rockliff, Redden, Rich etc) and if Green improves his engine, he is also an option to get up field more.
I'm not putting Paparone into that mix (not without seeing a bit more) but clearly we've recruited him to play that sort of linking role too.

I tend to think that he's a better footballer than people give him credit for but, like you say, he's not the best fit for our squad.

I'm becoming more interested in Kane Lucas as a trade option.

I think Grant would offer a point of difference in our forward half and be a good upgrade on Bewick and others battling for that fourth/third forward role. I reckon he cops a bad wrap, and whilst he hasn't been the most consistent performer, he is an early draft pick and often been unable to get a decent match-up due to the Dogs small forward line, hence stagnating his development.

If he is going to come of age (as we saw glimpses of in the back half of the year) it will be now as a 25 (?) year old. The thing that caught my eye was that the penny had seemed to drop in terms of defensive work rate.

I think Grant offers about as much upside as you can get in a trade option. I wouldn't be doing a straight swap for Doc though.

But, gee, recruiting a potential once-in-a-generation, KP forward, like this big kid, could easily be the catalyst for very quickly turning around confidence in the place.

It's amazing what faith in the future can do. To have another power forward that flat out scares opposition -- like Brown used to -- I'd love that feeling again.

I don't see how people would trade Redden. With the current condition the club is in, we can't afford to do that. We'd basically be making our culture worse.

I'm fine with waiting until the 2014 draft and picking up a good promising young tall forward.

Why does everyone want Longer to stay but won't take back Polec, Karnezis? All 3 have made it pretty clear they don't want to be here next year... I wouldn't want any of them after they expressed a keen interest to leaving.
