Cant see why there's a hold up..... simple really

Pick 34 or nothing.

Everything is to messy now and if I were port I would just keep pick 14.

It's not going to be pick 34 or nothing. It's easy to puff your chest out and play imaginary games of brinkmanship on an Internet forum, but in the real world where trades actually get done a deal will be made. People have long memories in this game and Brisbane will be given something far more reasonable than pick 34.

Maybe GWS will want 14 for 22 and 23 so they can swap 10 and Shaw for 14 and Adams? Or something to that effect?

The P is confusing the crap out of everyone as they are used to dealing with x, y and z.
If Polec had been Yolec it would have been done and dusted by now.

Agreed. What is it with trade/draft periods and people losing their minds? It's not like there won't be another draft next year.

I say we maintain a good relationship with GWS and Brisbane so that when kids like Mayes get homesick, we can trade in good faith with them. Not to mention the kids that will have to be cut from GWS' list - we can pick up some bargains there.

When our pick was #30 i believed this was about right for Polec (based on performance to date and potential). Now that it is #34 i think that is unders. Regardless the landscape has changed with Adelaide having the Vince pick which i suspect they are prepared to use if they can get some kind of sign from Polec that he would play for them. Choice is now to deal on picks or walk away. I have shifted somewhat from my view that our first pick is untouchable because of this. If we could get Polec, keep a pick in the teens and our #34 then we should do it. Potentially paying overs on current value but if he comes good will turn out to be a bargain.

I don't think pick #34 is a bad offer. The club is working in good faith so there's a chance the offer will be improved but the reality is at this stage we only have #14 and #34 to work with. Looking at historical trades in recent times, pick #34 is around the mark.

Ok, so we have...

Patrick Karnezis - Collingwood (pick #31?)
Elliot Yeo - West Coast (pick #28?)
Sam Docherty - Carlton (pick #33)
Billy Longer - St. Kilda (pick #25?)
Jared Polec - Port Adelaide (pick #34)

Am I in the ball park here?

Karnezis is way, way to high. Longer would cost more than pick 25. We wanted more than pick 18 from Hawthorn for him. His manager has already said if a deal can't be done he will stay in Brisbane.

Yeah, also might be better to get rid of the old fashioned blackboard, kids learn on their PC's now.

Yeah but running your fingernails down a PC screen doesn't quite have the same effect. :D

I just wish I could find away to automatically have these posts ignored
I can't tell if serious or not... There is an ignore button but I think that you already know this.

I agree, Adelaide have done nothing smart this period. They've shopped players behind their back, chased a club champion out of the club, demonstrated to their playing group that a contract means nothing at Adelaide and torn their club culture. But hey, Sando is the messiah, right?

They might've even murdered it, Ford.
'It' being what was left of not much to begin with.

If we can't any draft pick upgrades for our pick 14 with GWS or the Saints or whoever, why don't we get a pick (or two) in the low-mid 20s back from Brisbane for the players that are leaving.

Now this is interesting. My memory might be rusty but last year when North offered their second round pick it was argued, quite strongly, that the onus was not on North to improve their offer, but on Port to find a third party. Now the shoe is on the other foot and the onus is again on Port to up the offer.

That's because North knew that they could get Jacobs in the draft, whereas we're not in that same position with Polec.

Forzaport said:
Even Jacobs had shown more after 2 years than Polec has in 3.

Strongly disagree.

What happens if Gold Coast or St. Kilda see no value in sacrificing a second round pick to improve their draft position by trading with us?

Well then Polec better get used to the idea of playing as a Crow next year, unfortunately (even if he refuses to be traded to them, which I don't think he would, I bet the Crows would still draft him). Unless St Kilda trade something decent for Longer and we trade 14 for Polec and whatever that pick is.

I believe that's what the hold up is. No one wants to shoot first

We need to make this deal happen now, we have a high draft pick wanting to come, we need to show future lads we can get them home as well when we commit to them

Agreed.

Jacobs was overlooked by 9 other Victorian clubs in the draft because he is a spud.

Polec will not be overlooked be the Crows so we need to do some more heavy lifting to get this over the line. Pick 34 will not be accepted for a Pick 5 from three years ago especially when there is a fallback option.

Would we have accepted Pick 34 for Hartlett back in 2011 when he was struggling with injury?

I think the deal is basically agreed (hence Hammer's premature postulation) but it was finalised after compo picks were known hence post closing time. There might be a few details getting hammered (hohoho) out over the weekend.

Just caught the end of Rucci saying on AA that the deal was 98.5% done late last night...

( didn't hear how or which draft picks were being swapped ) - and it was Rucci

Ok, so we have...

Patrick Karnezis - Collingwood (pick #31?)
Elliot Yeo - West Coast (pick #28?)
Sam Docherty - Carlton (pick #33)
Billy Longer - St. Kilda (pick #25?)
Jared Polec - Port Adelaide (pick #34)

If I put my Brisbane hat on...

I'd only trade Yeo and Longer for a pick in the mid-teens and even then trying to keep them would be first priority.

Docherty I don't rate on what I've seen, get whatever you can for him. Pick 33 is on the low side but OK.

Karnezis seems like the kind of guy you're better off without. A small pick upgrade would be nice but more than happy to send him to the PSD.

Polec is gone, anything under #23 is a good result. Pick 34 is no deal.

Yeh in case Hammish something......

Curiously, Hamish has now deleted both the original tweet and the subsequent apology tweet. To me that makes it seem more and more likely that it was based on inside info, rather than just being a delayed reaction to Polec nominating us.
