yeah, ive been loving following the india/NZ matches, in light of how well NZ are going... love a genuine underdog playing like they are. williamson, taylor, anderson and mccullum are all playing beautifully right now. agree with your whole post.

did anyone here catch that rain delayed ODI NZ v WI where NZ smashed 300 odd off around 20 overs? anderson hit his 100 off about 6 balls.

I've watched their whole summer. Issue is West Indies cricket is around state level. They smashed them. But, to beat India is a more credible scalp.

Their only problem is that they are Kiwis.

There bowling is better than their batting. Southee, Boult and Wagner would probably be the 3rd best pace attack in the world currently. They lack a decent spinner though since Vettori is permanently injured

They have found a couple of batsmen now. The middle order has a bit more steel about it. They way they are playing at the moment, they would be top four in my book. They'd roll the poms for sure.

Should have beaten them a year ago if it wasn't for Prior playing his last decent innings

Correct. They are improving at an impressive rate. They just lack a strike bowler. They have some handy steamers who bowl that 125-135km mark. They need a Johnson/Lee type.

How many teams have had that though? The only one I can recall that New Zealand have ever had in Shane Bond.
Johnson and Steyn are the only ones from world cricket in the last 5 years.

Watson will find it hard to get back in the team. Will have to earn his spot now instead of being an automatic recall.

poor phil hughes will also find it hard to get back into the australian team. he should average far less at shield level, hit 30 years old and get an automatic recall instead of continuing to earn his spot...

Harris, Siddle, and Pattinson, all crack the high 140s on a consistent basis too, these bowlers all have that extra yard that the Kiwi bowlers lack.

This works in his favour actually, so long as he keeps belting the door down with solid performances. Rogers doesn't have too long left, Hughes just had to keep himself at the front of the queue when Rogers retires.

If he came in now and failed, they'd throw him on the scrap heap again, at least replacing Rogers he'll hopefully get a longer opportunity to make it than he's ever had before.

The problem is that he has failed so often that the selectors are more often than not go for an untried option. Maybe he is just another Graeme Hick, brilliant at FC level but gets found out at test level

Could Shaun Marsh open? Or, we can always slot Watson back in as an opener a d leave Doolan in.

i think he is another mitch brown... highly talented, but hasnt been given consistent enough performances at the top level to really see.

they persevered with watson while he was making 20s for a long, long time. hughes has always been the first to go. his test average was above 50 when he was first dropped.

he is still only 25, and:

Only six Australians have scored more than 500 runs in South Africa since its readmission into world cricket two decades ago and Hughes is the only current player to achieve the feat, with 532 runs at an average of 53.

i think he has a long term future for australia, and the sooner he gets given consistent chances, the sooner australia will have an excellent specialist batsman to once again humble my poms.

ricky ponting believes he is the best young batsman in the country.

You reckon Warney is gonna coach your mob?

no, i dont think he will. but i dont really know anything about cricket coaching and what it entails, so i cant say who will/should/might coach england.

if i could choose anyone though, it would be darren lehmann.

Agree 100% on him needing to be given chances, it's ridiculous how little patience the selectors have with him.

Reckon Smith has gone past him as the best young bat in the country though.

Would be quite a move from the guy who once said a "coach is something you travel in to get to and from a game".

The bloke that should be considered is Jason Gillespie. Is apparently doing good things elsewhere.

as an england fan, i hope marsh opens for australia for the next decade.
I recall you and all the other Poms wanted Mitchell Johnson recalled for the Ashes series as well. How did that work out?

go to agree, but he has a record almost identical to hughes... shows what faith and consistent selection can do with his turnaround. hasnt smith been given some major leeway?

If you can watch this, I recommend you do. McCullum is on 293 not out, and the young guy at the other end is smashing them. Neesham has moved to 86 n.o.

Brings up his 300 with a boundary. McCullum, I salute you. Now send in the Indians.
