Awesome thread. Still have that blue ship from the OP, believe it's called the Captain's Clipper. It's been together for 25 years now! Remember being somewhat disappointed to get it though because I wanted the red one- the Black Seas Barracuda. Which was replaced by a black-striped one I also never got :(

Also had the Ice Planet spaceship with the detachable cockpit and missile. Idiot cousin smashed it and it was never repaired :(

Thought I had a photo of my current collection but apparently not.

Feel your pain. Still the blue ship is a thing of beauty.

Like a few have mentioned earlier we didnt really have lego sets, just a massive amount (it would have been about 5000 pieces i reckon) of lego blocks. We then had heaps of instructions to build different buildings. We would buy a new book just about every year, it was wicked fun. The only lego set we did have was a medieval set that had castle walls and horses and so forth.

Although i was the 3rd child so maybe we had more sets but they just got mixed up with the other sets.

The favorite to build was a petrol station, polcie station, . We also built farms and heaps of buildings. Used to have green bases which we used for the farms, and road bases that we used to build towns.

Worst bit was when the parents would crack the sads and tell us to clean it up. It would take about 10 minutes to clean up as a kid.

Just finished building this

Was an enjoyable build over a few hungover Sundays reliving some childhood nostalgia, and now sits pretty in my man cave amongst all my other collectables.

I have built in a 4 speed transmission for it too. The plan was to motorise it completely so it drives, but the amount of torque required is too much for the little lego motors. So at the moment it only has the built in powered functions for opening the hoods and doors. It has suspension, rack and pinion steering, a working diff, and the fake V8 engine pistons pump when the wheels turn.

Loved Space lego. This was the first one I had as a kid.

I reckon I get more enjoyment out of building lego than he does sometimes. :)

haha, I had the space one myself, still do.

All of my lego from many moons ago has been combined with a few bulk ebay purchases and quite a few birthday / christmas presents for my kids.

I love it when they play with it.

Here is the current incarnation.

So only managed to keep an intact model for 3 days...typical legoism.

Got bored last night so started ripping out the engine and putting in a motor so it drives. The motor sits under the fake engine, and actually drives the fake engine so the pistons go mental like a real car. Put a fan on the engine too. Having the motor underneath has pushed the engine up so it sticks out the bonnet like a hot-rod. Looks pretty cool. The motor is linked to the driveshaft so the wheels turn, and change speed when I change gear like a real car. Unfortunately the motor is too small to produce enough torgue for the higher gears so it only goes along in 1st and 2nd (barely). Will make a stand that can flip down so at least I can show what the intention of the gearbox is.

Yeah lame I know.

Missus isn't impressed by my lack of maturity, but hey Im not impressed when she sits there watching mindless shit like House Rules and Kardashians - rather be doing something using my brain so we're even.

LOL @ the bloke who hates kids spending his time playing with Lego.:D

Better than wiping shit, cleaning spew and forking on $ for nappies

I'm really interested in buying a Lego Death Star but forking out $500-600 for one is a fair bit of coin for some Lego. Thoughts?

Think this got voted as the best lego set ever somewhere.

Up there with the technic space shuttle, technic super car and first lego pirate ship. I have this supercar too - its amazing.
