It can be misleading to compare players solely on totals/averages, as there's a vast discrepancy in average possessions by team. Hawthorn and Essendon average ~405 touches a game, whereas Brisbane average 336. Makes Rockliff's 28 touches a game even more impressive, as it's 8.3% of his team's total disposals. By comparison, Watson's 28.3 touches is 'only' 7% of his team's total.

B: M.Hibberd, A.Carlile, S.Burgoyne
HB: K.Simpson, C.Hooker, N. Dal Santo
C: S.Pendlebury, T.Boak, R.Gray
HF: D.Beams, L.Franklin, L.Parker
F: L.Bruest, T.Hawkins, C.Wingard
R: A.Sandilands, G.Ablett, JP.Kennedy
I: T.Rockliff, J. Selwood, B.Harvey, J. Gunston

It's not just bias inserting Nick Dal Santo on to the HBF line in an AA team. He is in perhaps near career best form, and has been playing fantastic footy across the half-back line for NMFC.

Also, Chad Wingard absolutely deserves a spot in this team. As does Lance Franklin on current form, after a slow start to the season.

I don't think Joel Selwood deserves a spot in the starting 18, but has earned a spot on the interchange.

This can also be misleading as teams often chip around in defense more so than their counterparts. Interesting comparison would be to get disposals of each midfielder in the team total them and work out an average of % of disposals relative to the other midfielders in the team.

I don't mind this team, reckon you could move Gray to HFF, exclude Parker and include another mid on the wing. Good effort though.

Connolly surely was taking the piss with his team...way too many bad choices.

My team at half-way mark

HF: D Beams (Coll), L Franklin (Syd), R Gray (PA)
F: C Wingard (PA), T Hawkins (Geel), L Breust (Haw)
R: A Sandilands (Frem), J Kennedy (Syd), G Ablett (GC, c)
I/C: N Jones (Melb), N Fyfe (Frem), B Harvey (NM), C Ward (GWS)

Nathan Jones I having a massive year. He is sitting 6th in the Coaches Assoc. player of the year in a team that has only won 3 games. Also 4th in the Lou Richards POY award, and is top 10 for disposals and clearances.

I would argue that he would be ahead of Ebert/Bartel/Heppell and would be battling it out with Boak for a spot in the team
I can't knock that and I respect Jones as a player. He's clearly the most worthy Melbourne player to be there but rightly or wrongly my view is team record does come into it and the nod should be given to equal players on a better teams, and there are a few of them.

Not that I'd have Jack Riewoldt in my 22, but the Coleman leader perhaps warrants an apology/explanation given the six players immediately below him on the goalkicking table are all either selections or apologies.

He's called Junk-Time Jack for a reason.

Ok cool, that settles that then.
In all seriousness Gray probably should be on HFF as he is averaging half a goal more.

Having said that Parks is averaging 25 touches 5 tackles and 1.3 goals. Pretty good AA credentials

Yeah he's close but I like the look of the Gray/Beams flanks & both have outperformed Parker. Squad material, not team IMO

Who goes in before them though? Tough to argue anyone is ahead of them for form and consistency.

You could even have it like this:

Beams Riewoldt Gray
Franklin Hawkins Wingard

And have Beams on the wing. Just not sure that Parker necessarily should be in the side.

The team they play for should have no bearing on whether they are in or out of the AA team IMO

It's not about the team they play for, it's about the success of the team.

No, it's still fairly meaningless.

I get what you're saying. I just think counting the number of possessions that a player gets means nothing.

It kills me how the commentators jizz themselves whenever Gary Ablett gets 35+

Who cares? I'm far more interested in what they do with it, rather than how many they get.

why should the success of the team matter/

Its an individual accolade, not a team accolade

Agreed, Connolly is a tosser who knows very little about football and is massively Vic-centric.

Couldn't be further from the truth.

Is close to the best footy journo in the business, knows his shit.

Well obviously I disagree. Too many examples in the past where his bias has overruled what should be common sense.

"Common sense" in the eyes of different supporters is clearly never that simple, on BF, and especially when you work in Melbourne as an AFL footy journo.

I hate footy journo's more than most, RC is a gun journo though, he's a footy head, and if you've ever heard him speak, you'd realise he is the farthest bloke from "clearly doesn't watch games" and has "no idea".

The bloke would watch every game, every week. Whilst he has pretty firm opinions, he's very objective, I doubt most would even be able to tell you he's a Essendon supporter.

Your previous post was more to do with the "anti-vic" garbage that seems to be a chip on the shoulder of most South Australians. You clearly never stream SEN etc, most of the jounro's you chastise have nothing but glowing reviews of most of Port and Adelaides work this year.......
