I had heard similar a while ago, we will have to wait and see what eventuates.

Surely he wouldn't leave after he slid so far and we took the punt on him.

I think his management may be worried about injury, probably want a decent longer term contract (3 or 4 years instead of the standard 2). That way even with a knee reco he will be able to play a decent amount of football before his next contract negotiation.

If he signs for two and does his knee and hardly plays before his next contract, he would be in a poor negotiating position.
