Was at the game. Brayshaw is not that impressive. Petracca is much better. Garlett, coaches nightmare, not good enough to get away with playing like an Auskicker. Smith was mediocre and does stupid things. Lim doesn't look draftable.

What those watching on T.V wouldn't see was Waterman taking himself off twice a quarter. Around the 6min mark he'd come off, would come back on around 11mins and off again around 17. That's why he got a lot of ball in spurts, he was never used in the centre either so I assume he is carrying a niggle. He was the leading ball-winner for WA and is the cleanest and most assured player they have. In a contested situation he is Tom Libba/Priddis like, strong over the ball, hard to shift and clean/creative hands.

James Rose from SA is all class. Interesting to see how Caleb Daniel goes, killed it against vice country but is very small, wonder if that'll deter recruiters.

How was Pickett?

Wasn't his best game. Didn't have much impact. But he and a couple of others from WA would look a million bucks playing for Vic metro or SA. WA as a team are awful.

It wouldn't be bad, I agree. But as I just suggested in my post a minute ago I think we should take the opportunity to pick up a potentially elite midfielder. Which currently I don't think either Waterman or Pickett project as.

I would rather we go for a player (Pickett for example) who has obvious traits that we need desperately, rather than get an all rounder who might end up being 'complete' but also might end up being a tweener.

We so desperately, desperately need a quick line breaker with goal sense.

It's why Jetta at pick 7 would have been an infinitely better pick than Sheppard regardless of the fact he'll never be as well-rounded.

Yep, a fair enough view. My point wasn't that I necessarily wanted a well-rounded jack of all trades, more that I prefer the idea of a midfielder who has the scope to be A-grade, like a Brayshaw or Petracca (from what I've researched). Whilst Pickett does have the attributes, could he a potentially elite onballer?

On this basis I would prefer Petracca and Brayshaw over Pickett but would prefer Pickett over a Duggan/Ellis at this point.

What did you think of Ahern and Winton?

I'd need my Championship Record to remember who he was. What number? VM had a lot of good medium sized players, but they are hard to ID from afar. Winton was ok, not good not bad. Sounds boring but WA just don't play well as a team, there are a few players who aren't team focused (complete opposite to SA) disciplined or fundamentally skilled so it's really hard to rate the performances of the better players because of this.

Ahern wears number 6. Kicked 3 goals, was silky smooth and smart. Really like him.

- Sat next to Hugh Goddard's father and grandparents. Really lovely people so I felt bad for Vic Country's utter capitulation to South Australia. Hugh took some nice marks across the Wing as a Centre Half Back but was a really average game from him.

- Pickett was not impressive at all, couldn't get into the game and struggled to have a tangible impact on the contest.

- Waterman drifted in and out of the game (understandable given his niggles), but when he gets the ball his accumulation is superb, beautiful handpassing and vision close with a great raking kick. Am very keen on him as a second rounder.

- Blakely and Hardisty were decidedly unimpressive for me. Quietly impressed with Aidan Anderson's game and his nous around goals was good. Clem Smith is not worth the risk IMO, hacks the ball when clearing from 50 and is over-confident with his attack on the ball and contest.

- Tyler Keitel would be worth getting to troll Fremantle. He's that good.

- Winton, Palfrey and Francis Watson are third rounders for mine. They are rough around the edges but each possess characteristics that could be helpful for our team.

- Ahern from Vic Metro is someone we should definitely be interested in. A high half-forward who can hit the scoreboard, and I'd seriously consider a trading to get another second rounder for him.

- Petracca wasn't hugely visible for mine, but when he got the ball... fuuuck.

- Also really liked Duggan, Wright and Darcy Moore's games. Peter Wright could be a monster. The way he stepped around midfielders to slot a goal on the run from 50 was something special.

- Josh Hone from South Australia was a zippy undersized SA player who was close to BOG for mine. Cut up the midfield easily and was very good at the contest for his size. May drift out to a second/third round pick because of his size so if we were looking for a small forward who can pinch hit in the midfield he's definitely worth considering. Harry Vick was also similarly impressive around goal.

- Peter Bampton, Jack Agostino and Billy Stretch were all impressive for SA as well, strange team from them. Lots of quality as always but lacking the size of previous years midfielders. Be interesting to see how their lads competed against SANFL bodies and how they'll go later in the year.

- Tom Lamb has presence but doesn't convert around goals well enough for mine, Zaine Cordy has some panache, Jordan Cunico battled hard (Would rookie him, is a bit vanilla but is very competent at most things). Teia Miles is bog average while Patrick McCartin did f**k all for highly rated first round pick. Vic Country got belted in the middle and it was a terrible display by them. Would like to see Billy Evans and Mitchell White again - Both seem like they'd be ideal picks for our team but the team performance of Vic Country was so poor it remains to be seen what they can do.

He's out of contract at the end of the year and is seemingly disgruntled with Fremantle, guess we'll have to wait and see what transpires in the lead up to and during finals but if we can get gun mid fielder at the right price due to his injury history surely it'd be worth a punt?

They need a forward how about Sinclar? Straight swap

Best players were Vic Metro

Petracca very impressive big bodied mid that wins his own ball has pace and good decision making and clean ball skills closely followed by Brayshaw who has similar atributes. Ahern looks like a classy mover he bagged 3 goals up fwd and can play in the midfield.


Best players for Wa

Were hard to find but liked the look of Keitel kicked 2 goals and has good hands in the marking contestand then played down back .Garlett looks to be a good mover as well kicked a nice running goal from the boundary line from 45 metres into the wind and really took the game on and went for a few long runs down the wing has pace and reminds me of a brad Hill .Pickett just didn't perform but had 1 good moment in the 1st quarter that saw him run and carry and use pace and kick long into the fwd line that resulted in a goal for Wa..Waterman was going against Petracca and was unsighted but did put in a good last quarter effort against the breeze .

Bampton and Agostino didn't play. SA's numbers weren't the same as listed in the record. Stretch wore 11, Hone wore 3, Daniel wore 1. A nightmare for casual onlookers!

I think we won't give up our first rounder if we're forced too. Brayshaw, McCartin, Kietel, Pickett, Wright, Petracca, Lever, Durdin, Duggan, etc all look likely for a top 10 draft spot, add in Waterman and someone better than him should slide to us. That being said said the draft seems a bit light on for midfielders so if a club below us is really desperate for one we might be unlucky.

Hopefully Waterman has some "bad" testing

Agreed. But ideally think we should be drafting midfielders than can do both. Our midfield is very rigid in nature in that our inside mids are very inside, and our outside mids are very outside. We want more inside midfielders that can hurt you on the outside like Shuey (although doesn't everyone).

With our first pick anyway. I think we could do with more wingmen on the list aswell given the only genuine one on our list outside the 22 is Main.
